Just days after Norway’s data protection department told ISPs they must delete all personal IP address-related data three weeks after collection, it’s now become safer than ever to be a file-sharer in Norway. The only law firm with a license to track pirates has just seen it expire and it won’t be renewed.

Earlier this month we reported that since Norway’s Personal Data act prohibits the storage of unnecessary data, ISPs in the country must delete all IP address-related personal information they hold on their customers which is more than three weeks old. This makes it very hard in most cases to track down illicit file-sharers.

Now according to a Norwegian report, going after domestic file-sharers has become more difficult than ever before.

Since 2006, the Simonsen law firm - home of notorious pirate-chasing lawyer Espen Tøndel - has been in possession of a license from Norway’s data protection office...  ...Read Full Article HERE

£6 (9.5USD) tax on telephones to pay for fast broadband access

A charge of 50p per month is to be levied on all landline telephone bills to subsidise the Government's plan to bring broadband internet access, and faster download speeds, to every home in the country by 2012.

The move is part of proposals for a "digital revolution" to overhaul Britain's internet infrastructure, as well as the media and telecommunications sector. The much-anticipated Digital Britain report was presented to MPs yesterday by the Culture secretary Ben Bradshaw, who said it would help the UK to secure a competitive, low-carbon economy within five to 10 years and "accelerate Britain's recovery from the biggest economic shock the world has seen since the war".

Going by such names as Gumblar, JSRedir-R, Martuz, and Beladin, a new generation of malware has managed to surreptitiously place malicious JavaScript code on tens of thousands of popular Web sites.

The hacker scripts try to infect site visitors and then attempt to use their compromised PCs to spread the infection to yet other sites.

Over the past month, the security services ScanSafe and Sophos have reported infections on such major Web sites as ColdwellBanker.com, Variety.com, and Tennis.com. Niels Provos reported in the Google security blog on June 3 that sites infected with Gumblar numbered about 60,000. Visitors became susceptible to infection simply by opening the sites in Internet Explorer.

After the script infects a PC, it attempts to spread its code to any Web site accessible via that machine's FTP client, if one is present. Webmasters often use FTP to make changes to the sites they manage. If FTP...  ...Read Full Article HERE

What is testmy.net

testmy.net is an internet connection benchmark.  We offer Download and Upload connection speed tests.  We offer connection history logging as well as host stats.  This is a 100% free site and you can test as much as you need to.  testmy.net is able to bring you some of the most accurate results due to our centrally located US server on the UUnet / Global Crossing backbone.  Unlike some speed testing sites, testmy.net uses only highly compressed data for testing to ensure that you are testing from data that your provider has no way of compressing (therefore this site will show you what your real line speed is, not what your provider wants you to think... common among satellite providers).  Also, with 'SmarTest' Testmy.net will automatically adjust for your line speed and use the most optimal test size for your connection type.  testmy.net is a 100% word-of-mouth advertised site, so the growth and success of the site relies on it's users, so please keep visiting, and please pass this site on to friends.  You will notice that there is constant development and growth with this site, this also relies on our users input... if you encounter any bug please post in the forum under this section and if you like the site and would like to add your input to a great growing online community please join for free.

See a glitch or bug?  Or just have an idea on how to make the site better... Post in this special section of our forum.
