  1. After a year on the Pro, I couldn't take it. My speed continued to remain at the Express level. I changed my ISP to DSL Extreme. Now I get 2700kps.(2.7mb) My predicament, as well as all of yours, how to deal with SBC and the money they swindled from me...and you?
  2. After my rant yesterday, I researched the problem further. Of course others have experienced the problem as well. SBC has been selling a "Pro" package of 1.5 to 3.0 Mbps download. They apparently have oversold the product, since their Redback routers in Irvine are now "exhausted" or overloaded. The Express customers, who are guaranteed 768Kbps to 1.5Mbps are getting about 1.2Mbps. I requested and received a refund for the difference between a Pro and an Express package. Though I have a pending request to be relieved of the one year contract, since they did not provide the 1.5 to 3.0 Mbps download. The saga continues.... BTW the ass picture is Lindsay Lohan.
  3. Application Pro Express Dial up 2 hour movie (550 MB) About 25 minutes 52 minutes 23hours! digital picture (1MB) About 3 seconds About 6 seconds About 2.5minutes 1 song( 4MB) About 11 seconds About 22 seconds About 10 minutes This is on the AT&T website. No disclaimers, nothing.
  4. I signed up for Pro DSL with SBC (who bought AT&T) back in July of 2005. I noticed speed problems from the get go. Particularly from 5pm to 10:30PM at night. The speed would slow down to an excruciating 386 or 600 Kbps. I should have been getting 2.5 Mbps. I called and had numerous trouble tickets opened. Yet SBC said they could find no reasonable problem for the slowdown. They assumed it was my computer, firewall, virus program, etc. Time went on and I told them that I would withhold payment for DSL until they could find a remedy or downgrade me to a cheaper version of DSL (since I was getting the lower speed anyway.) SBC was belligerent and threatened to cut off my service. Well after months of going back and forth, without resolution....I called and demanded a full investigation. I told them to send out a technician and check the lines from my location back to their routers in the Central Switching office. The tech came out last week and sat at my computer. He was perplexed. He made one phone call and spoke to a tech in charge of the CSO. They told him two words, "exhausted router." The tech turned to me and said there is nothing that can be done. Too many people have been connected to their routers, it causes a slowdown when everyone is on it. I was shocked and angry. I have been paying a premium price for a service that SBC knew was shoddy and not up-to-speed. How many more customers have been swindled? How much money has been stolen from unsuspecting consumers? I ask all SBC and AT&T users to check their speed, do it frequently. If you are on an exhausted router, you have rights and recourse. The California Public Utilities Commission has been notified. Someone should file a class-action. This is what happens when greedy corporations are more concerned about illegal gain than actually providing superior service.
  5. OK, after an entire day of SBC tech support phone tag, they have finally fixed the problem. Here are my new speed results: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 2466 Kbps about 2.5 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 301 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Wed Jul 20 2005 20:29:12 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time) Bottom Line:: 44X faster than 56K 1MB download in 3.4 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 44.97 % faster than the average for host (pacbell.net) Moral of the story: If they sell you DSL Pro ( up to 3.0 Mbps) make sure you get what you pay for. Even if you have to call them and demand a trouble ticket.
  6. OK, just got off the phone with tech support. They have placed the issue at "Level 2 tier" support. A trouble ticket has been issued and they now will be testing the line as well as the router in their Central Switching office. Stay tuned for further developments.
  7. Check the speed with http://help.sbcglobal.net/dsl/speedtest/ . It shows 1.179 Mbps download and 435.35 kbps up. Again I called their tech support. They said that even their own speed test would not show the higher speed. It doesn't make sense.
  8. Upload has gone up from 128 to 430. Though my concern is that the download has not increased. Connection is:: 430 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Upload Speed is:: 53 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1) Test Time:: Wed Jul 20 2005 11:39:25 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time) Bottom Line:: 8X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 19.32 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 76.95 % faster than the average for host (pacbell.net)
  9. Yes, I used testmy.net when I had Express. The 2 Wire router shows that I am getting 3008 kbps download. The independent test sights do not corroborate that speed. Here is my latest test. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1266 Kbps about 1.3 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 155 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Wed Jul 20 2005 10:32:46 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time) Bottom Line:: 23X faster than 56K 1MB download in 6.61 sec
  10. I upgraded my 1.5 mb SBC Express account to the 3.0 mb SBC Pro account. According to the tech support it became effective yesterday and they are showing 3.0 mb down. Unfortunately all the speed tests I run come back at 1.2 to 1.4 mb. The same exact speed I was getting with the cheaper Express. SBC tech support said there is no way to independently test the speed. The router and their tools show 3.0 mb down, I am just going to have to accept their word for it. Now does that sound like a good product? Here are my results, with the new 3.0 mb download speed. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1269 Kbps about 1.3 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 155 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1) Test Time:: Wed Jul 20 2005 09:30:56 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time) Bottom Line:: 23X faster than 56K 1MB download in 6.61 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 74.52 % of your hosts average (pacbell.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-NE1XM059A
