  1. I tested several times. This looks about as good as it gets. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1298 Kbps about 1.3 Mbps (tested with 579 KB) Download Speed is:: 158 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 23 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 6.48 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=8E4NLHUKV
  2. Across the Atlantic my speeds drop from around 1400kbps to this... Your connection is: 592 kbps (about 1 Mbit) You downloaded at: 72 KB/sec Bottom Line: You are running: 11 times faster than 56K and can download 1 megabyte in 14 seconds heh... to think that with my old cable modem I would of been happy with this speed!

  4. why does Microsoft even bother putting something out thats still jacked up?
  5. My provider finally installed the ADSL this morning. Look at this test... I havent even tweaked it yet. :::.. 6. Doom creates a great sense of suspense and good lighting effects. But I cant get into the game. It seems like it was geared toward the crowd that runs into a room and running araound shooting blindly. It fails where FarCry excels, using you damn noggin and fighting smart, peeking around corners and being more tactical about things. After playing doom awhile it seems like I am fighting my way through striking similar terrain and the onlything that is changing are the bad guys. The weapons blow too. I think that the BB pistol I owned when I was 9 had more knockdown power than that POS pistol. The chain gun blows too. The damn assault rifle has a higher Rate of Fire than the chain gun. Plasma guns... lame always has been always will be... nothing beats a futuristic version of the MP5 or P90 burning through a whole 30 round clip in 4 seconds with the bad guys dancing like James Brown on a coke binge while bullets are wrecking havoc on his zombie anatomy. Now thats sweet. What would be cool as hell would be shooting a zombie in the chest and him flying across the room John Woo style and when his corpse hits the back wall pieces of him scatter everywhere with litlle noodles of flesh hanging out of his mangled pellet riddled limbs... now thats cool... am I ranting again.. It must be all the beer Im drinking..... well Ill shut up now..... SGT Griff
  7. Downloaded SP2 Installed SP2 Guess what.... the computer kept crashing and I had to reformat . NAhAA just joking . SP2 is pretty sweet. No problems and Smooth running.
  8. You will not believe it! This company I am recieving service from is notorious for blowing off the "little guy", but within 30 minutes of sending my email, I recieved two pages on my pager. Since I sent this letter to Customer Service, this letter went to the cable internet dept. and the big wigs upstairs. I contacted the guy who paged me and he was very concerned. I guess the email went around the company and some heads rolled. He said they "the big guys" were just informed that they have been having problems with the cable internet side for about three months. I assume that the complaints to the cable internet support dept never left the dept and the upper management were unaware ofthe problem. They are currently reviewing what actions to take to correct this problem, but as an immediate fix they are switching me to ASDL immediately, same price no hassles. I made a firm point to him that I was not meaning jeopardize anyones employment future and the problem may not neccessarly be the cable internet guys fault. It may be something that 8 techs working 15hours a day can not fix. It could be lack of funds due to budgeting, poor quality equipment, or a lack of qualified personell. Now that the upper guys are aware of the issues they can perscribe the proper amount of resources in correcting this problem. To make a long story short. It looks like I am getting my way.... MUHAHAHAAAA..... SGTGriff
  9. Hey guys, I sent an email to my service provider, but I though you all might be interested in it, so Ill post it for your viewing pleasure. Please do not be offended because I removed my email address and ph. number. I am somewhat paranoid by nature and you all do not have control over who views your page. The letter reads as follows. To Whom This May Concern; I am a subscriber to your Net@HomeXpress cable internet service. I am currently "paying" for the residental 1000 Kbs/256 Kbs service. This service was installed approximately a month ago; and in this timeframe, I have endured substandard speeds and experienced many inconvienent service interuptions. Quite frankly, I have grown tired of waiting hours for my cable internet to come back up and having to wait for websites to load because of slow bandwith speeds. I am have been unsuccessful in contacting your repair department due to several factors: 1) Technicians are helping other customers (too few qualified technicians?), they take my number and promise to call me back, has never happened... which leads me to factor number 2) since I work until 4:00-5:00pm daily, I am unable to contact your repair center within the scheduled business hours (since this is a residental service I suggest extended hours for your tech support staff, this would help ensure you provide the essential support to more of your customer base. i.e the people who work 8am - 5pm). When I do manage to contact your staff it is near the end of thier workday and I assume that they leave and my problem is forgotten the next day. As a knowledgeable computer user, I have done several things to ensure that I am not the reason for the problem. The following paragraphs may get a little technical but please bear with me. I have ran many speed tests on different public sites of which I frequent on a regular basis. The results are as follows.... www.pcpitstop.com Download Speed 208 Kilobits/second Download Test Size 101 KBytes Download Time 3.875 seconds AVERAGE SCORE www.dslreports.com 2004-08-19 18:56:20 EST: 180 / 285 Your download speed : 184831 bps, or 180 kbps. A 22.5 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed is much faster than down.. have you tweaked? Your upload speed : 292226 bps, or 285 kbps. A SLOWER SCORE www.testmy.net :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 339 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 386 KB) Download Speed is:: 41 KB/sec Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 6 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 24.98 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=OQD1AUBWX ONE OF MY BEST SCORES!!! When I conducted these tests, I turned off my firewall (A RISK), my popup blocker, and my real time virus scanner (RISKY TOO) to ensure that I have the best scores my line provided. I done a few calculations and I thought this is what I should getting.... 1000kbits/sec divided by eight should equal to approx. 125 kbytes/sec transfer speed. With an overhead of 13% (average overhead load) deducted, It should leave me at 108.8 kbytes/sec transfer speed. Heres the messed up part. If I use better result, I am getting approx. 37.7% of my advertised speed. And my lower end result, 20.7% of advertised speed. Now it doesn't take a computer genius to conclude that I am getting FAR LESS than what I am paying for! Any wise manager would understand that this is not a good way to practice business. When I first ran the numbers, I told myself that it couldn't be possible to get such bad speeds unless I was part of the problem. I then ran several tests to test my packet loss. When I first ran the tests I had slight packet loss. After several attempts at adjusting my RWIN and verifying that my other settings such as MTU,TTL,ACKs were acceptable, I managed to get my packloss to a minimal and optimized my computer to achieve the best possible speeds, I still had approximately the same results. This led me to believe that my computer was infected with spyware or adware software, which are known to reduce internet speeds. I ran SpyBot S&D and spysweeper to detect if I had been infected. I found none. In a last attempt to verify that my pc was not the cause of the problem I took my computer to a buddys house and used his cable internet service. As expected I ran near his advertised speeds (he has Time Warner Cable Internet). As you can see, I have gone as far as I can to ensure that my computer is not the source of the problem. I feel helpless and ripped off, unable to contact a tech rep. and unable to use my internet with out getting frustrated. I don't know if the upper levels of management at Home Telephone Company are aware of these issues (they should be), but if these problems plague many more customers than myself, Home Telephones credibility could be hurt and they could lose customers. With the fall semester rapidly approaching, it is imperative that my internet if reliable and functioning accordingly. I can not afford to put off research because my cable service is down. I am a firm believer in giving someone a chance to correct thier problems and it is not my nature to be a "hard to please customer" that is why I am writing this email to notify you of my issues. The upper management need to be notified and these problems need to be rectified ASAP! I really dont care what the fix is... upgrading your systems, verifying that the cable lines to my house are in good condition, checking the signal-to-noise ratio(s) on my incoming cable line, changing my cable modem, or changing my service to ADSL of equal speed. I believe it is my right as a customer to get what I pay for. At this point, I would be satisfied getting 85% of advertised speed. Any efforts Home Telephone makes at fixing this problem will be greatly appreciated. Be advised, I expect that this email be replied to as soon as possible. It is not my intention to insult, make threats or jeapordize anyones employment situation, BUT If I feel like this has fallen to deaf ears or this process is not carried out as expediciously as possible, I will make every effort to contact upper management and inform them of this mess. I appreciate your attention to this matter. Thanks. V/R R.Griffin
  10. Ca3le I was wanting to do some research and see if it was worth downloading. Whats crazy is, my download speed is so slow, its like a major decision whether or not I actually need an application/update. The time I spend downloading something that large (which would take me quite awhile), I could spend playing FarCry. Damn what I just said makes it official.... Im a gaming geek. Oh well.... its damn fun!!!
  11. All you experts out there..... What is the general concensus on Win XP SP1a? What does one gain by installing it? The reason I bring this up is I downloaded it this afternoon and installed it, without doing my research. I restarted the computer and all hell broke lose. I couldnt open programs. The computer was slow as a onelegged turtle climbing uphill. After it locked up, I done system restore to the point before the installation of SP1a...... Viola! No more problems. Is this the norm? Should one stay away from SP1? Or did I possible get a crappy download? Enlighten me please. Is this download worth my time? Or is it a waste of hard drive space?
