  1. Turned out to be a fluke? Could never duplicate. My speed just now: 2.7/329. What a flucuation? And everything on my end is the same ... go figure? :::.. 3. Directly wired to the modem w/ 2 diff. computers - the best I get is 4.7Mbps - the same I got when it was advertised at 5Mbps.
  4. Well here's my just taken speed test. Granted this one is through a wireless router, but frankly it stinks. And it's supposed to be "UP TO" 7/512!!! It was at 4Mbps before the great upgrade. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 2571 Kbps about 2.57 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Download Speed is:: 314 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 2) Test Time:: 2006/04/07 - 6:04pm Bottom Line:: 45X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 3.26 sec Tested from a 1496 kB file and took 4.766 seconds to complete Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050804 Firefox/1.0.6 (MOOX M2) Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 60.21 % of your hosts average (mindspring.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-H3U9D4ZFA
  5. Oh, now I get it - you appear to be giving information but really you're trolling the cable forums ...hmm. VanBuren - please check and see how he got so many stars by his name. I may have to log off. Don't want cableguy stalking me. Think I'll switch to DSL.
  6. cableguy ... Just because everybody does it (or so you say) doesn't make ir right. Unlike you, I don't have a "love"/"hate" relationship with my ISP. I just want then to give me some of the supposed 40% upgrade that they loudly touted. That's it plain and simple. Or charge me 40% less for what I already have. Unfortunately, they own the cable that comes into my house ... so I am a "captive customer" and don't know of a better alternative at this time. If there was one I'd take it.And the only movie quote that I can think of to respond is "There has to be more to life than just being really, really, really, ridiculously good-looking". Orange Mocha Frappachino!
  7. Thanks Gotta - It's too bad Birighthouse/Earthlink isn't or can't supply what they say they do; but at least I know I'm not the only one. And I've come to the conclusion that "cableguy" ia AKA "brighthouseguy" and gets defensive when the truth is pointed out about their connection speeds. So he says things like it's still "great performance", but that doesn't cover up the fact that - at best - it's misleading advertising. A bigger farce is the brighthouse speed test versus any reputible one on the net. Want faster speeds - take their test!
  8. Sincerely, thanks to everyone for their help.
  9. OK. Thanks for everyone's help and advice!
  10. Glad to see you mastered "cut&paste" cableguy ... I have too: Actually ALL I want to do is resolve my bandwidth issues, but there's no way to get more bandwidth if the supplier isn't providing it ... even after listening to all of cableguy's and brighthouseguy's misdirections. Oh, and by the way, my ISP and I have kissed and made up. So now when she lies to me I believe it..

  12. Funny CableGuy, that's exactly what the BrightHouseGuy said. So I'll take your advice - I now signed up with Dr. Phil for 6 months of attitude adjustment. He guarantees that for every seminar (paid) I attend, I'll see 100kps improvement in my internet speed. In addition, he'll throw in a free back alignment. PM me if anyone wants the number. Thanks again for your valuable input. Also, I really do want a fabulous relationship with my ISP so I started reading "Men are from Mars and ISP's are from Venus". What a great book! Five Stars!
  13. RTB - Sorry 2 GB of ram on the AMD 64 3200. Yes it should max out speed. BrightHouseGuy and/or CableGuy ...I guess you'll tell me next it must be the fact that I don't have a water softener in the house.Dam that hard water. Can never get squeaky clean hair and now this - poor connection speeds!!!
  14. Also Thanks to everyone here for their help and input (richcornucop). I really do appreciate it. And - cable guy - I'm not "abbrasive", but I am abrasive. So do you work for Brighthouse or something? They wanted me to check my hardware too and wanted me to get a PC tech out to look at it. Is that the typical "smoke-and-mirror" stuff they do when they aren't supplying what they say?
  15. CableGuy - Didn't want this to crossover into two posts, but felt it was important that if someone looks up Earthlink here they find out they are not supplying what they say - period. And it's not close. I've posted my config's in the What's Wrong thread (www.testmy.net/forum/t-13033). But that is totally irrelevant in this issue - I'm not squeezing out an extra 1kps. I want some of that 40% increase they loudly advertise. And as I said they CYA'd themselves by saying "up to 7Mbps", but they can say anything is "up to whatever the hell they want to" then ... as long as they supply something.
