  1. thats cool. Well now I know. Like I had said. I just remember from what I have read. Thanks for correcting me though. I really appreciate it. I didn't really want to be wrong about what I was saying, but I was reading more on it last night after I had posted that and I agree with what you say. It made more sense last night when I had re read everything. thanks.
  2. From what I know and have read, which isn't really much to tell you the truth, Anything past 3 gigs is useless unless your running a 64bit system. BUT... If you are running a quad core then that's when all four gigs really kick in. Even then, from what I have read, the DDR3 memory doesn't really make a difference unless you use high quantities of the DDR3. As in 8 gigs or more. Supposedly. But like some of us have agreed upon, you have to have a 64bit system in order to run that much memory. So there you go. Thats about all I know right now about that. I am actually going to read about it some more as soon as I leave the forum. You might hear more later.
  3. I was trying to use one of the programs me and my friend are new to try in order to send movies back and forth to each other, and well this error popped up.... Checking port 48139 on **.10.***.208... Error! Port 48139 does not appear to be open. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP?
  4. [ftp][/ftp] Does anyone know how I would fix this. My torrent downloader isn't working properly. It says that my port is open. Man that sounded bad. LOL. Can someone please help to fix this. I have been searching for ways of doing it on my own without having to buy some stupid a** $60 software package thats going to ened up screwing something else up on my brand new ROG lap top. HELP?
  5. Maybe I am just a "Vista" fan. I don't know. I couldn't really work my way around it when I first started operating the system when it first came out. Never did any upgrades to my last two computers. Just this one, but then again this computer is a performance computer as well, as well as a 64 bit system. I've tried using apple computers themselves and the user interface was difficult for me to operate through. Just didn't understand how to use it really. Course you could always do like my friend did with his computer. that he ended up giving me. I just have to get a new power supply for it. He put it in a huge tower that is about three foot high and almost a full foot across and about two and a half feet in length. Check this out.... He did some kind of personal mods on the mother board and on top of that he did a lot of other things that just looked unreal. don't really know all the specifics to it, but i do know that it works, if it had a power supply, and i know it has some kind of kick butt cooling systems that at times will, and I swear, have ice in a couple of spots next to the fans. the condensation is what made the power supply burn out I think. Anyway, he took all this stuff that he built up and ended up putting three different operating systems that actually worked on one computer. I don't know how it works or what he did, or how he did it. All I know is it works, and it makes a lot of noise, and it lights up the room whenever its running. i would give you his email and all but i would have to ask him if i could give it to somebody who was interested in the "artillery shell". I have to wait till he calls me again or whenever he emails me back. He's in Iraq right now, and with his job, he doesn't really have much free time over there. but I will ask him if you would like
  6. So what are some reasons why you aren't going with vista? I have had no kind of problems with vista itself. well not yet anyway. Now I have had problems after the fact that I downloaded some optimizers that didn't work but maybe like 5% if that. It screwed up my system more than anything. So yeah, other than that I haven't had any problems. Know of any good upgrades for Vista though? LOL. I have 64 bit by the way. You can definitely tell 64 is better. At least it seems that way.
  7. Hey man, how are things going down there. Welcome to testmy.net and congratulations on choosing a good website. I don't really know how SmartBro works, but I have tried different versions of quite a few optimizers and have had some make my internet speed a lot faster and some that didn't make it that much faster at all. The ones that made my connections faster screwed up some of my other parameters. That is currently what I am trying to fix. The stuff that I have actually found that helped out a lot was stuff on this site. I was just scanning new msgs so I don't know where they are located at right now. After I get done here, I will look for the forum that I used in here and I will try to send them to you or something. Just be careful about downloading programs for speed boost for your computer. Unless you know that the software will allow you to choose what goes and stays. Some of the speed booster/Optimizers out there are a one touch, push to fix, type of "fixers" Also it all really depends on what kind of processor, who makes the processor, how fast, what bit version you are running(64 bit or not), internet provider, and a a lot more variables. Well at least that's what I've been told from people that I have gotten emails from and what not. Good luck to you with everything. I'll try to get back to you.
  8. Hey fellow screen watchers. I would just like to say that I am finally relieved that I have been able to start the membership on this website. I finally got a performance computer like I have been trying to get for quite some time that . Well now that I hove gotten one, then now maybe and can learn how to make it a lot faster for better gaming, better downloading, better everything. I have been wanting to learn as much as I can for so long and now I have a chance. I hope that I end up making many new friends on this website and become a lot more intelligent about computers after a reasonable amount of time. I already now a little about computers, but not enough to do any high performance modifications or anything. Hope to talk to someone later. I sound like a dork, saying this, but "I'm so exited". Wait..... I am a dork, never mind.
