I'm with you on this. And I should have thought to come up with it, never crossed my mind.
Back some years ago, I did a lot of jobs in the middle of no where. New construction, no bath, no porta, nothing. So I'd dig a small hole somewhere inconspicuous and have at it. never went so smooth and easy. And never put one thought to it as to why.

Hi all. Sometimes you just have to have more cowbell ! I can't explain it.
I'm on the edge of the Houston metropolitan area. Mostly farms a few years ago. Civilization is doing what it does; ever expanding outward.
That means, (you guessed it) Pizza delivery and internet !
I have all the same grief everyone else does. My ISP has given me more than enough reasons to keep an eye on them.
Additionally, I am doing research into hosting my own domain.
By way of introduction, that is me in a nutshell. I'm looking forward to hearing about what others are experiencing.
The testing App? So far so good, though it is certainly not the "good news" app. (ha ha)
    Sincerely,

Honestly now, I've used ~100+ PSI through a 1/4" nozzle for cleaning out the funk, for years. Could that pressure find ill soldered components, absolutely. Have I encountered this, no.

reading that over again, reminds me of Tesla vs. Edison ... Edison wanted DC which would have put power plants on every corner.  Tesla was all about AC... we all know what happened there.   Edison killed a bunch of elephants using AC power and still lost because nobody wants power stations on every corner.  Just like nobody wants wifi units on every corner.  ...just like AC vs DC... I don't think we need them on every corner.  Wasted resources, as humans, we can do it smarter.

You can just minimize the browser or have it running in a different browser tab and just ignore it.

I see what you're saying, it would be cool to have it in the tray, running as a task.

I'm heavy in the belief that web applications will be the future of nearly all applications.  I've always geared TestMy.net toward a 100% browser experience.

The new version of TestMy.net is a full PWA.  Taking advantage of many new browser features, 100% adopted by all major browsers at this point.  In the next versions of Chrome you will be able to install TestMy.net and have it run and behave as a normal desktop application.  You can also add it to your mobile device and have a more app like feel.  It's much faster and offers offline capabilities.  For instance enabling auto resume for the automatic speed test, a feature I've always been looking to add.

    Testing time is near.

The new functionality coming to developers in browsers ... is blurring the lines between native and web applications.  I imagine it's only the beginning.  The progression at the browser level is ramping up quickly.  Browsers are implementing cutting edge features at an astonishing rate and it's feeling like ALL of them are agreeing to standards for once.  I've been developing for the internet since the beginning, never seen this kind of progress.

I've never developed for iOS, Android, Desktop etc.  Now and especially in the future ONE web application can branch across all of those platforms.  Especially when you're a single developer... it can be hard to manage even 1 code base.

So I hope that in the future it's just part of the way TestMy.net works... using the latest tools I have available.

Hopefully you'll see by minimizing it... you can run it that way for over a year.

Obviously still a caveman here. I looked around a few times, yet still overlooked that. That's almost exactly what I was looking for except that a smidge lower that 1 Mb for minimal upload would be handy. (3/4 of a Mb would be ideal, but 1 Mb is still good)

yeah, IBM bought softlayer and it all went to shit.  Oh well, time to give them back the LAST grandfathered server... they killed the bandwidth on purpose.  Deals like mine, had to die.  They want all the old customers DEAD -- gone.  No joke.  Well, you win IBM.  BYE!  I never wanted to be on your platform in the first place... WAY to rich for my blood.

In hindsight, I should have picked up your linode link -- you turned me on to them long before I used them.

Dallas servers are all switched out to a different host.

I put 10 new servers online in Dallas tonight.  This will better parallelize tests.  Basically when you test... there's an even better chance that you're testing on a server all by yourself.

Also relocated DE and added a 2nd DE server, again to help parallelize.

I see better results on both.

I would imagine the throughput spread your experiencing is due to the ISP testing server is likely located on their system, close to you, before any external network or shaping / filtering they may have in place.

Where testmy.net is testing the route between your ISP and the testing server.

That's nice, call me an idiot.  I love giving people a free service and then being called an idiot, fun times.

If you hit email on the results page it should send the details of that test, like this.

After you click the Email button on the results page, do you see the result details being populated with information like in my screenshot?

If your email client is like mine it will group those messages together.  But looking at them, you should see the test details.

    Hi all,

I didn't get a response to my original post, but I thought I'd provide an update...

Having experienced nearly three weeks of having dropped from a stable 40Mpbs connection down to a consistent 1 to 2 Mbps, and my ISP telling me that there was nothing wrong with the connection that they were providing, my modem dropped the connection this morning... then came back up at 40Mbps. It's only been back up to that speed for a few hours, but it's looking promising!

When the connection dropped, I used my mobile phone to check my ISP's status page and, lo and behold, the carrier was carrying out maintenance on my exchange all day yesterday. I then looked back to when my connection problems started nearly three weeks ago, and noticed that 'maintenance' had also been carried out the day before I started having problems. What an amazing coincidence!

As it happens,  a couple of hours before my connection went back to normal this morning, I had already decided to change ISPs (after 7 years) and had signed-up with another provider. I understand that changing ISPs was no guarantee of an improvement in connection, but I did not appreciate the service and information provided to me by my current ISP. Did it really not occur to mention to me, on the first day I contacted them, that my exchange had maintenance on the previous day? Was it really a coincidence that my problems started the day after my exchange had maintenance, and then stopped the day after further maintenance was carried out?

My new provider (to which I should be connected next week) has good customer services reviews, and is AU$10/month cheaper than my current provider, so hopefully, I'll be getting the speeds I am paying for with good customer service, and a sizeable annual saving!

Thank you to testmy.net for a great service. It's much appreciated.

OY VEY!! .. My $60 U.S.  Dollars are not purchasing very much at all,  sagerj, comparatively speaking!   .. I think I'll commence litigation procedures in Superior Court, ..Myself versus Windstream Communications,  for "Blatant Exploitation!"  Living way out here in the sticks,  the boondocks, my options are NIL!    Whatever happened to the Federal Communication Commission?!!    << Rhetorical.  I think I'll seek reparation damages.   These past 12 years I've been paying this company for that which I have not received, i.e. "Broadband Internet Services!" ..  By my calculations, at 1.3 Mbps Download, and  314 Kbps upload,  I figure they owe me $7, 247.38,  fees commensurate with my actual service connection speed, and adding 8% accrued interest for the sum total.     .. I'm not hard-hearted, so I'll probably relent and settle out of Court for  $Five Large!

    Peace,

Been a while since i posted a speed test.  Very long story short, after 12+ years with Verizon/Frontier,  i called them to find out what the best they could do for me on getting some more speed. , for the least amount of money. They tried some low ball offers at first ( i was currently on the 150/150 plan) it wasn't happening. I asked about their 500 plan, they said it would be an extra $200 a month! ? & my area doesn't qualify for that speed. I told them their out there GD mind. So they offered the 300/300 package for an extra $150 a month, and i politely declined. Told them there are other competitors offering Gigabit speeds for far FAR less than were paying monthly. Somehow she (the rep) was able to work some magic and somehow got the 500 plan approved, and only $50 more a month.
After install i can see why they didn't offer it ? she was really struggling to pull anything more than 300/200. so after 3 weeks of fanagalin they finally for it right. Had to literally find a near empty node to stick me on.

The following results are from MANY major ISP's, Google , and various speed tests,& locations.  testMy hates me, it always has and always will. No logical explanation why, nor rhyme or reason. Single thread, multi thread doesn't matter. Since 2004 , just a hater. ?
