Without looking up your posts yet , I will have to say that following the instructions exactly as written , the likelihood of you bricking your router are slim to none. The process is multi stage and to be honest rather simple.

The main issue that would cause anyone to have an issue , might be that some people do not read and follow the instructions , and get into a hurry to see the changes on there routers GUI.

Go over the instructions several times , many times , then without actually doing it , get the software needed from DD-WRT , and do a mock flash of the unlocker and the rest of the process.

There is a waiting period of several minutes in one part of the process , make sure to wait ! Just as the words imply , wait the specified time limit. And follow the instructions afterward.

All that said , if you can follow instructions carefully , you'll have no problems. ( now I'll go read a couple of your posts ;)

edit: I also read that you were into PC games , and any PC gamer has has to make some adjustments and get into settings to insure there system runs they way they want it to, so i have no doubt you can accomplish the DD-WRT flashing process. Just please take your time reading.

Can I ask what version router you have ( will be on the sticker on the bottom ) I believe these things take the mini , that is what I have flashed on the one here. Not sure if nokaid is available for your version , if it is , use it.

I have a netgear N also , and nokaid is a great version.

Yeah I have version wrt54g-ver8

The wiki can scare u with all the issues that can arise if u just miss one step or use the wrong firmware..""BRICK"" hehe.. guess this is a good thing because it makes u very cautious..I read everything and downloaded all the things I needed.I also saved all info from the wiki to a text file..Anyways I know this sounds lame and im not poor but its a money thing for me I pinch every penny I have because I am a single dad with two kids in college and one in high school I also hope to retire one day I dont want to be 80 and working at wallmart..Its the thought I blew 60 dollars for a new router because I wanted to play in my spare time...(love tinking with anything pc or related)..With that being said Im going to try it next week when I have a three days off from the hospital..Thannks for ur support will keep this post updated with my progress..Attached a pic for u to view of download page for DD-WRT...

It's actually rather simple procedure , and might take you 10 minutes to complete. I'm sure you can do it.

I just re- flashed my wrt54g less then a month ago , with the nokaid , love it ! Although it's not in use right now.

Hey , golden years should be spent around others , so whats better then wallfart at 80

it's mostly just under the services tab, you get things like openVPN, NAS support, you get more hotspot services to choose from and the option to turn it into a milkfish SIP router also some extra security features

aside from that you get gigabit lan and 300Mbit wireless N both far superior to the Linksys WRT 54G

Well in that case , good thing I don't use wireless for LAN , instead pfsense takes care of all that.

yes indeed pfsense is far superior to any consumer router,

as for the DD-WRT big those are the only changes i noticed.. i'm sure there are under the hood changes you can't see i'd have to go through the feature list to actually know them lol

I used dd-wrt for some time, I'm not knocking it, in fact I still use it with a Netgear WNR834B v.2 (nokaid) for the PS3 and a couple laptops, plus they come in here and use there PSP's on it. Although the PSP seems to have issue with the pfsense captive portal , dd-wrt is able to give the range boost via kicking a bit more power out that they like.

I guess total pointless being I am in the UK , with adsl , our modem routers are a 1 piece combo ,
it's hard to find a stand a lone router ,
but I have tried D-Link, Belkin, netgear ,2-wire , bt home hub , and last, the best for my long line .
Thompson Speed touch ,
it's all down to signal to noise ratio ,the router that hold sync through the crap the longest wins,
but it depends on the telco Dslam and the chip they use , so there is not one best router in the UK
it's horses for courses ,

now Fibre optic cable is a totally differnt ball game , great if it's available ,
just been talking to a BT openreach engineer working on the cabinet 50 yards from my house ,
he was blowing through the new fibre cable ( apparently the blow them through the underground duct ,
the days of hand pulling are gone , guess health and safety at work killed that off ,

result ? shortly I should have a 40Mb connection , I guess the TMN speed test will go into shock with my
as.105 test results , rising from 4.4Mbps to 30 + , :icon_king:

Seriously! I want at least 100Mbps symmetrical! I think there is Telecom politics involved... that's why FiOS isn't in AZ yet. They all have their territories ... they just give the illusion of competition. Sorry but TWO providers isn't a competetive market... that's still a monopoly if you ask me.
