with what i've seen about the wii, specifically how the controller works, that would be my first pick right now. xbox360 and ps3 (just like xbox and ps2) have so many games that are just another rehash of old ego-shooter or beat-em-up ideas. that nintendo widget actually looks like it may bring some much needed fresh wind into the console market.

and most rts and sims play better on the pc anyhow. sports games it's a tossup, but i prefer the pc.

hm, and the new imac with the 2.33 ghz core 2 duo, a 256 meg 7300 gt vid card and 500 gig drive, up to 3 gig ram... it's almost a pc and a console, no?

I was thinking the SAME DAMN THING. Along with Furbee man don't forget that shit. They banned those where I worked (Boeing, yea I built airplane wire harnesses, fly after knowing that). :haha:

Hey man I would suggest waiting. The HDMI 1.3 is not in any tv out now and that will make a HUGE difference later on. HDMI now is not capable of carrying a 1080p picture. They will be comming out end of year or early next.

thats not 100% true. most tvs from 2005 and back did not do 1080p over HDMI, (most plasma) most tvs from 2006 till now, do 1080p over HDMI.

HDMI was always capable of 1080p, thats what DVI was designed form. It was the TVs that could never really do it.

here is a 1080p HDMI cable

You can read on the advantages of HDMI 1.3 here. The old HDMI will not carry the newest audio and will not carry the color quality of the 1.3. I do not believe you are correct that old HDMI (anything but 1.3 will carry 1080p) but do not want to find proof right now. I will look later. Although you are right that untill a few months ago MOST ALL tvs would not support 1080p.

http://www.hdblog.ne...-on-hdmi-1080p/

Nope you are right. But I would still wait a month or two for the advantages (better sound and video) with HDMI 1.3.

Apparently some of the 1080p tvs dont accept it from teh old HDMI either, weird.

HDMI 1.3 wont make that much of a difference. the thing that will help you most is getting the best video processor you can get. most TVs have shitty video processors.

Now that statement is a matter of opinion. The difference in sound quality that the old versions dont support is HUGE in and of itself. I wont even get into the color spec differences.

New HDMI 1.3 capabilities include:

Higher speed: HDMI 1.3 increases its single-link bandwidth from 165MHz (4.95 gigabits per second) to 340 MHz (10.2 Gbps) to support the demands of future high definition display devices, such as higher resolutions, Deep Color and high frame rates. In addition, built into the HDMI 1.3 specification is the technical foundation that will let future versions of HDMI reach significantly higher speeds.
Deep color: HDMI 1.3 supports 30-bit, 36-bit and 48-bit (RGB or YCbCr) color depths, up from the 24-bit depths in previous versions of the HDMI specification.
Lets HDTVs and other displays go from millions of colors to billions of colors
Eliminates on-screen color banding, for smooth tonal transitions and subtle gradations between colors
Enables increased contrast ratio
Can represent many times more shades of gray between black and white. At 30-bit pixel depth, four times more shades of gray would be the minimum, and the typical improvement would be eight times or more
Broader color space: HDMI 1.3 removes virtually all limits on color selection.
Next-generation “xvYCC” color space supports 1.8 times as many colors as existing HDTV signals
Lets HDTVs display colors more accurately
Enables displays with more natural and vivid colors
New mini connector: With small portable devices such as HD camcorders and still cameras demanding seamless connectivity to HDTVs, HDMI 1.3 offers a new, smaller form factor connector option.
Lip Sync: Because consumer electronics devices are using increasingly complex digital signal processing to enhance the clarity and detail of the content, synchronization of video and audio in user devices has become a greater challenge and could potentially require complex end-user adjustments. HDMI 1.3 incorporates an automatic audio/video synching capability that allows devices to perform this synchronization automatically with accuracy.
New lossless audio formats: In addition to HDMI’s current ability to support high-bandwidth uncompressed digital audio and currently-available compressed formats (such as Dolby® Digital and DTS), HDMI 1.3 adds additional support for new, lossless compressed digital audio formats Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™.

I modified my post to include the sounds that only 1.3 will support. Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™. With BluRay and PS3 in mind those sound formats will be great. Both lossless. Old HDMI can only do 24bit color and the new will go up to 48bit color.

I guess it depends on who sold you the ticket???  :evil6: No I did work at the Boeing plant in Denton Texas for a good while. I built wire harnesses for every plane Boeing makes. Some where very complex. This was the place that paid for my wifes engagement ring. A months pay and a Christmas Bonus. I also made her a necklace from special gold connectors that Boeing uses, she still has it and wears it. Its not as ugly as you would think. If I wasn't so lazy Id post a pic.

It wasn't bad. She deserved the best, and still does. Its not the biggest but I got a near flawless diamond. Quality over quantity. I gave her the lil certification that it was brilliant white near flawless or whatever the terminology is.

but do you think that whatever the ps3 has to offer is worth $600?
how do you explain that the nintendo wii can't be kept on the shelves for more than 10 minutes per shipment while the ps3 sits there crossing its eyes back and forth?[eh, just something a console might do when its bored?]
