An Iraq court earlier this year found the former Iraqi dictator guilty of ordering the killing of 148 Shiites in 1982; an appeals court had recently turned down an appeal.
The execution was protested by human rights organizations that alleged the trial was unfair, but hailed by members of the Shiite and Kurdish populations, which suffered for years under Hussein's brutal rule.

The exact time of the execution was hushed in secrecy, largely because of security concerns, officials said. U.S. forces were put on high alert, and Iraqi officials hinted that the daily curfews here may be extended in anticipation of reprisal violence.

Despite the arrest and trial of Hussein, the insurgency has continued unabated, and sectarian violence between the Sunni and Shiite populations has flared into what some observers have labeled a civil war.

The hanging took place at 6 a.m. Baghdad time, 10 a.m. EST.

Finally... thank god.  Now he can meet his maker and face his TRUE sentence.

They shouldn't have let him choose. Even him burning to death isn't in comparison to what he did.

Why, if it's such a 'happy news' do I keep wondering abut this:
1.  He's hanged for the 'genocide' of 143 persons. The weekly total of dead in Iraq has got to be at least that much.
2.. His recent remarks have all been in hopes of Iraqi's reconciling, perhaps we have more to worry about than just getting rid of him.
3.  He's more of a 'scape goat' at this juncture, compared to say, . Usama Bin Ladin who was indicted on November 4th, 1998. Still at-large.

1: the killing of 143 people in response to a purported attack on him was the first of many crimes he was tried for. he happened to draw the short straw on his first trial.

2: his ramblings ever since his capture in his little chickenshit rathole have been all but insane.

3: he is guilty of a crime and the judicial system of his country of residence chose to sentence him to death. that makes him a convicted felon, not a scapegoat.

i say they should have hung drawn and quartered him...

I agree, don't get me wrong...but putting in *perspective* this event in light of the whole situation...I'm concerned that we may have too simplistic a view of things sometimes. So, moving right along...Nuke The Whales!!

Strap him down to an ant hill and cover him in molasses.

Tie him to a wheel and slow spin him over a fire till well done.

Only open and read if you have a strong stomach.    It's gross.

Anyway, torture would have been better in my opinion. But I also think they should be used on some of our own prisoners.  Why wait 10 years for their turn to be killed?

Take him to a huge huge huge colony of fire ants, strap him down with no chance of escape, and leave him there to get eaten slowly.

You have to make sure he does not go into shock, the pain would go away. You also don't want him passing out either.  He needs to feel it all.

Or this toy? This was in the link. The pear. It tears you up from the inside out. It is inserted in to a cavity of the body. ()uranus, oral, etc...) And then the screw is turned to expand it till death enters the person. Sort of expanding parts not intended to expand. Pretty brutal.
