other way around tommie, we were #1 USSR was #2 they never had more then 800 nukes we have over 2000. we also have several 24 warhead ICBM's then only had a few 16 warhead ICBM's
Russia spent more money on weapons percentage wise during the cold war, which is on of the reasons they basically went bankrupt.

I have forgotten the exact numbers, but during the peak of the cold war, we spent something like 10% of our GDP on weapons/military, while Russia(USSR), spent over 20% of their GDP.
(I have to look up those numbers, but I believe they are relatively accurate)

I found this so far...close..

By the late years of the Cold War, Moscow had built up a military that consumed as much as twenty-five percent of the Soviet Union's gross national product at the expense of consumer goods and investment in civilian sectors.

I feel Americans are like a woman in the kitchen when she sees a mouse. Who is bigger, and who has more to fear. But still the woman jumps on the stool, and the mouse runs around laughing at the woman.  :evil6:

So why does the media keep us scared? That one I am not sure of.  :lost:

I agree that Iran must not get nukes, but this whole scenario somehow reminds me of the cold war, especially with the ICBM's. Hope it doesn't turn into that again.

  Well said.

We all hope this situation does not turn that sour. I believe it will, it's only a matter of time. Most of the middle east , want to "wipe Israel off the map"

How do we stop people from killing others , when they will stop at nothing to kill themselves?
The balance of the powers that be , seem to be spinning wildly (more than usuall) recently.
The part that is scary , is if and when the sh*t hits the fan, is the rest of the world going to hold onto there sanity , or play along with the Ultra-Uber-psyco ?

I hope they change plans because, it might start another Middle East war that will affects third world countries who's economy were partly dependent on oil from the region. Let's pray for a peaceful solution.

 Absolutely, wish there were more we could do. But like mudmanc4 said, "How do we stop people from killing others , when they will stop at nothing to kill themselves? "

I find it funny how a country like Iran wants to develop its own nuclear program but is given the shaft by the UN because they are a "hostile" nation... while there is Israel, a very UN-friendly nation, saying they want to nuke Iran, in a blatantly hostile motion. If anything, Israel should have its nuclear program shafted.

The hypocrisy of the UN is astounding.

Welcome to the forum cyberwolf   :welcome:
" The hypocrisy of the UN is astounding." Not at all. You just said it yourself, Israel is member of good standing in the UN. And Iran is Hostile.

What country are you from, anyway??

Why would you want to hand your enemy a loaded gun?? Really not hard to understand at all.  :whaa:  But then I am an American.  :wink2:

Iran would make a nice landing strip.

I agree with most of your statement, but imo the UN isn't being hypocrite, because its purpose is not to be sincere but to keep peace. Blaming Israel would probably just feed the fire raging in the middle east. Then again, I havent read the UN's declaration of principles, so I might be wrong. Oh and yeah, welcome to the forums

Well they would.
The UN definately want us there at the UN. To talk with us and keep us calm. We might blow the [glow=red,2,300]hell[/glow] out of something.

Not really a big secret, the UN is not our Allie, and they have hosted to a host of our enemies.   The saying, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" applies directly here...................... :uglystupid2:

In one way I am glad we did not wait for the UN this time. We did find out who our real friends are.  :grin2:

And allies are not always friends. Sometimes they just figure it isthe safest place at the time. Like Italy in WWII, Hitler was their ally.  [geek]
