Is this your ISP?  http://ecsis.net/services/internet/

And are they operating on a burst speed system? Their website is so minimalist. I don't know if this quote from there, means 'burst speeds' to 10MB and then lower sustained speeds kick in. But maybe some traffic shaping goes on?

****** Wireless access speeds start at 512x256k through 10MB

You could try a larger test instead of the automated one to see if any speed difference.

That is the ISP, and no its not burst speeds.

Their cheapest package is 256x128, for $29/month, they then have 512x256, 1.5x387, 2x512, 3x512, 6x1.5, and 10x10(backhaul). (I actually had a list of their plans on my desk, lol).

I am on 3x512, so getting 2.7, generally is pretty good. But, when other tests, and even downloads pull in 3.7-4.2, then its something wrong. On download files, i'll easily hit 450kB/s, and best was 570kB/s, but that only happened once. This is speeds throughout the whole download, not a burst.

Also, the ISP frequently provides faster speeds than what you paid for. I know some people on their 512x256 package that pull 700-800kbps down.

It's not a big deal, but still.

Edit: i think it may be a routing issue.

Tracing route to www.testmy.net [74.54.226.166]

Trace complete.

100ms for 450-500miles isn't very good. I normally hit dallas at 37ms.

Im pretty sure they don't traffic shape, but I guess thats possible.

My isp has two plans 5/2 and 10/2. Im currently on the 5/2 i pay 40 a month. Yea it looks you might have a routing issue. My old isp was real bad with that issue.

Ive been with this isp for 5 months now and been very happy with them. 5/2 Plan

You could try to launch FireFox in 'safe mode'. To make sure any extensions are not slowing it down.
Safe mode is in programs, click Mozilla FireFox, and then choose safe mode.
