Hi, I am a new member. My OS is XP home.Virus protection is AVG 7.5 Free. Here is a sceenshot from my AVG control center:

I have it locked in the virus vault, and thought I could just delete it from the vault and that would get it out of my PC. However, when I click the "delete file"option, I get a pop-up saying
"are you sure you want to remove this from the virus vault?". No I want to remove it from my PC, please help.

danginny58, welcome to the forum and enjoy your stay here.
Go ahead and remove it. Then run another scan to make sure its not lurking around. If it is go into safe mode and run the scan again. While in safe mode turn off system restore then run scan and remove. Be sure to turn system restore back on after restarting.

How do I get to "safe mode"? I have DVI-D output from my PC that feeds my HDTV, and digital display does not give "BIOs", nothing apprears on the screen untill you get a desktop.

After you turn the computer on, press F8 immediately.

F8 did not work, in fact it messed up my DVI-D signal and I had to walk over to the PC and manully shut off my PC to restore it.
Safe mode must be and analog fuction. I did have a analog adapter (if I can find it) and can display my PC on an analog monitor, But I will have to go to the shop and get my analog monitor. Another option is to use the S-video connection from my video card to the s-video connection on the TV. This is a SVGA connection and maybe I can get F8 to work that way. Neither of these are simple.
I think I will try just doing the "delete option" then run another scan and see if I got rid of the trojan. OR, do you advise against it?

Always go simple before hard! Personally I would delete and re scan to see if its gone or not!

OK, I just used the AVG delete option and ran a complete san. I am now clean. Is there anything else that I should do?

just in case if you remembered the file name or even part of it do a search for it as one last precaution.

No, F8 doesn't have anything to do with your display

Yes Avg is a bit confusing with it's "are you sure you want to remove this from the virus vault?". ,it certainly does delete it from the computer , the other option you can take in avg it's to restore this file ,  that puts it back where it was ,I guess that option is in case the file was a false positive
BTW, some fancy and not so fancy " keyboards have a "F" key swich options and indeed the "F" keys then provide other control options  ,
