Did anyone here tried the new AVG Free 8.0? I upgraded from 7.5, it looks good and a re-designed clean interface, then I noticed degraded performance on my PC. I tried re-installing, I get the same result. I feel safe with AVG but this new update slowed down my PC.

Try disabling the link scanner. Also disable the Resident Shied if you have another program that is already doing approximately the same thing or disable the other program both doing this together may conflict.

I really liked 7.5.  Tried 8.0 and it totally trashed my system - had to reload XP

I switched a friend over to 8 from 7.5, and don't notice any difference, still just as fast as before and no other problems.

as far as i know, my 7,5 is still updating, and running fine. When i HAVE TO, i'll upgrade to 8, if i dont like it, i'll just run avast or something else. No biggie really. But so far if i had a choice i'd stay with avg all the way.

But thats good news bro, real good !!

Looks like I'm not alone with this slow performance caused by AVG 8.0. Thanks! I'll be using 7.5 as long it can update.

I tried disabling the Link Scanner feature, web browsing went back to normal. But the Resident Shield still slowed down my PC, I don't have any other AV installed just AVG. I guess 7.5 is still the best choice for performace. AVG 8.0 needs to be re-worked & not heavy on memory.

Thats the one, and maybe its because I am running a single core XP. When I get on the quad Vista in a few more days it might be different. Till then 7.5  and IE6 works for me.

I haven't noticed any problems with 8.0 so far. If you are experiencing slowdowns, how much RAM do you have? I have a P4 running XP at 1.86 Ghz but I do have 2 gigs of RAM. Maybe that's the difference?
