I am not sure if this is in the right Topic , But during my world travels sitting in my computer chair surfing the Internet for news items worthy of the forum , I come across what can only be described as odd small town news , very regionalized and mainly from the UK ,I never know the right place to  post it , or indeed to post , it don't fit in "news " it don't fit , General discussion or Off Topic in some
ways , so I thought I would nest it here , so if anyone has news that ain't front page , Try it here ,
Motto - "There's owt as queer as folk , it's an old English saying ,  the queer has to be seen  in the old way , as in bizare  :wink2:
Mods if this is in the wrong place ,or not needed , feel free  to do what a man has to do ,

UK radio news
McDonald's will today begin turning its waste into compost as part of an eco-friendly trial.
If it was rolled out across all 1,200 McDonald's restaurants in Britain, the potential amount of waste saved from landfill could be 90,000 tonnes a year.

LOL, there must be a more Eco friendly way , why not just close Mc.Donalds,
and save a lot of Kids gettin fat /diabetic in the procces . ?
for me save the children comes before saving the planet 90 K tons of crap

Plucky cleaner fights off hungry python
Monday, October 6, 2008
A plucky zoo cleaner has fought off a python which tried to swallow her in its enclosure.

Cleaner Renate Kaiser, 33, was mopping the floor of the giant tiger python's enclosure at the zoo in Uhldingen, Germany, when it attacked.

The 14ft long snake which has about 70 sharp teeth and weighs eight stones, launched a lightning attack on Ms Kaiser's head, according to German media.

A policeman said: "The snake had its jaws around her face. She was in danger of slithering down its gullet."

But the brave cleaner fought back. As its powerful coils began to encircle her. She dug her thumbs into its mouth while zoo staff poured buckets of warm water down its throat.

It became disorientated and released her.

The effect of the water dulled the snake's sense of smell, while the thumbs rammed in its mouth caused it pain.

According to the German media, the python, from Africa, can swallow antelopes and other large animals. Ms Kaiser was treated for bites and shock in hospital.

Mr Gay UK 'cooked victim's flesh in olive oil'
Monday, October 6, 2008 The first winner of Mr Gay UK stabbed a man to death before carving a piece of flesh from his thigh, seasoning it with fresh herbs and cooking it in olive oil, a court heard today.

Anthony Morley, 36, of Bexley Avenue, Leeds, then chewed a piece of Damian Oldfield's flesh before walking to a nearby takeaway and telling staff he had killed someone, Leeds Crown Court was told.

Morley, who worked as a chef, also cut a piece of 33-year-old Mr Oldfield's chest and nipple and left a bank card over the wound, the jury heard.

The defendant denies murdering Mr Oldfield and told police when he was arrested that someone had tried to rape him.

Opening the case for the prosecution, Andrew Stubbs QC told the jury of eight women and four men that the two men had been involved some kind of relationship in the past and that Morley was troubled by his sexuality.

 but had no problem with indigestion aparently  :undecided:

Child care , maybe we need parent care ?

Children are more worried about their parents taking drugs than the other way round.

One in five young people thinks their parents have taken drugs in the past – and one in ten of those children think their mother and father are still taking them.

That works out at double the number of parents who think their children do ,

Launching a £10million appeal to respond to the scale of drug and alcohol abuse among young people in Britain, she added: 'We want to encourage a much more open dialogue within families about drugs and alcohol.'

Celibacy the key to a long life

Clara only went into care this year
A woman who is celebrating her 105th birthday is attributing her long life to remaining celibate.

Clara Meadmore, a resident at Perran Bay nursing home in Truro, Cornwall, only moved in to care in January.

The retired secretary said sex meant marriage when she was young and she never wanted to marry.

"I have just never been interested in sex. I imagine there is a lot of hassle involved and I have always been busy doing other things."

  I guess my ex, is going to live a long time ,  :evil6:

A robber who broke into a house came up with a great excuse when she was nabbed by the homeowners - she was sleepwalking, not breaking in.

The 42-year-old was discovered at the house in Adelaide, Australia, by the homeowners when she crept in and turned on the lights

But when police arrived at the scene she insisted she was asleep and didn't know what she was doing.
Police have, however, rejected her claims and she will be charged for breaking and entering.

Meanwhile, most the  Adalaide guys are now  not locking their doors at night ,

Warning  don't mess with Brit tourists ,

"Japanese police detained a man - believed to be British - who went skinny dipping in a moat ringing the Imperial Palace in a busy Tokyo business district, attracting a huge crowd, officials said on Tuesday.
The naked middle-aged man jumped into the moat, then threw rocks and splashed water at two policemen who chased him in a rowing boat,

Skinny dippin is great ! I love it, but hey, why there, and in the broad daylight ? What was he thinking ?

We used to do this in quarries at night, no we werent supposed to be there, but it was not hurting anyone, nor did we break, or steal anything.

The Sabian Mandaeans say they have nowhere to worship or teach their children about their faith.
Members of an ancient religious group living in the UK are warning their faith could soon disappear.
http://news.bbc.co.u.../uk/7678445.stm
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While I have every sympathy for the religiuos belife's of others , I think they kinda shot themselves in the foot on this one ,

as Dr.Layla Alroomi said,   Water is central to our faith ,  and we do not have that in England , while she posed
for the inverview/protest standing alongside the river Thames ,  :idiot2:

the UK is a well known wet country , we got more rivers and rain than you can shake a stick at ,  and there I was thinking Iraq was a semi dessert country  with water shortage problems , aparently not !  :icon_scratch:
I think if they need their temple they should get on and build it , as all religious groups had to ,

My lot built Stonehenge, without a goverment grant  , and they also nearly got destroyed as heritics , never seen them whinning about their bad luck ?
