Marijuana charges dropped against Ronald McDonald
aug 12 2010

Charges have been dismissed against two Iowa City men charged with possession of marijuana in February.

Police went to 2023 Taylor Drive, the home of Ronald McDonald, on Feb. 14 after receiving a report of a suspicious smell. Police said responding officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the residence.

Police said they found a quantity of marijuana and other drug use paraphernalia in the residence. A jar containing marijuana residue allegedly was found in McDonald's room and he admitted to smoking marijuana, police said.

As a result of their investigation, McDonald was charged with possession of marijuana and permitting a gathering for the use of drugs. Also charged were Deandre L. R. Irby and Sven M. J. Hovland. Irby was charged with possession of marijuana. Hovland was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver after police found marijuana, a scale, ledgers, a pipe and cash in his possession. Hovland allegedly admitted to providing marijuana for the gathering.

Hovland later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year of supervised probation.

On Aug. 5, the court dismissed the charges against McDonald and Irby.

McDonlads affects my bowels now-a-days. Can't eat three big macs in one sitting without getting a bit loose. So I prefer Wendy's. Or a Grandpa burger(triple burger) at A&W.   But I also have a body that has a pretty accurate hunger gene, so I don't eat when I don't need too.

Bears guard marijuana grow op
August 18, 2010

Conservation officers and police in the Boundary region have discovered a bizarre security system - unlike anything they've ever seen before. A marijuana grow op is using bears to defend thousands of pot plants.

Police regularly monitor several drug sites in the hills above Christina Lake. But a recent raid on one marijuana grow operation had an unexpected defense system.

Police found at least ten bears patrolling the grounds around thousands of pot plants. The bears were fed dog food and vegetables to keep them in the area. Police say the bears were so docile the animals were actually playful as they approached.

ZOMBIES!!!!!!!!

Yea it's funny.  :2funny:  The zombie part that is.   I bet the protesters got a bit freaked out.

aug 21 2010
VANCOUVER bc — Hundreds of zombies shuffled past dozens of protesters gathered in Vancouver Saturday to decry the Canadian government’s treatment of the 492 Tamil migrants who arrived in B.C. more than a week ago aboard a cargo ship.

About 100 protesters distributed tissue-paper flowers and criticized Canadian immigration and citizenship minister Jason Kenney outside of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The would-be refugee claimants are now awaiting immigration processing at B.C. jails.

"We’re deeply concerned about the kind of xenophobia and hostility that’s being expressed towards the refugees," said rally organizer Harsha Walia.

Still, the event was strangely overshadowed by an annual “zombie walk,” which drew several hundred bloodied and white makeup-caked zombies to the art gallery steps and square at the same time as the Tamil migrant-supporting rally.

MI6 worker found at London flat 'had been dead weeks'
Gareth Williams' body was discovered in a holdall in the flat in Pimlico An MI6 worker whose body was found in a holdall in his central London flat may have been murdered two weeks ago, police believe.

The bag was discovered in the bath at the top-floor flat in Alderney Street, Pimlico, on Monday afternoon.

The man has been named by relatives as Gareth Williams, from Anglesey.

Police broke into his home after work colleagues said he had not been seen for at least 10 days. It is not known if his death was linked to his work.

Officers discovered a mobile phone and several mobile phone SIM cards laid out at the flat.

BBC News correspondent Jon Brain said Mr Williams worked at the headquarters of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) about half a mile from the flat in Vauxhall Cross.

Woman who dumped cat in wheelie bin 'profoundly sorry'

A woman filmed dumping a cat in a wheelie bin has said she is "profoundly sorry" for "a split second of misjudgement".

The RSPCA said it would be interviewing Mary Bale after CCTV cameras showed her throwing four-year-old Lola into a bin outside her owners' home in Coventry.

A Facebook group calling for Ms Bale's death has been removed, the social networking site said.

Police said they were speaking to the 45-year-old about her personal safety.

""I cannot explain why I did this, it is completely out of character and I certainly did not intend to cause any distress to Lola or her owners.

"It was a split second of misjudgement that has got completely out of control.

"I am due to meet with the RSPCA and police to discuss this matter further and will co-operate fully with their investigations.

"I wish to reiterate that I am profoundly sorry for my actions and wish to resolve this matter to everyone's satisfaction as soon as possible."

BERLIN (AP) — Police say a man living in Germany was shot in the back of his head, but that it took him five years to realize it.

Police said Tuesday that the 35-year-old man was hit by a .22-caliber bullet in the western town of Herne as he was out in the street partying and drunk on New Year's Eve five years ago.

They say the man recalled receiving a blow to the head, but told them he didn't seek medical assistance at the time.

The bullet did not penetrate the skull, and police say the Polish man only went to see a doctor recently when he felt a lump on the back of his head. An X-ray showed an object under his skin, and doctors operated and found the projectile.

Police say it may have been a stray bullet fired by a reveler in celebration.

PARIS (Reuters) - A French woman discovered her 42-year-old son had been buried in the same cemetery where she was attending her brother's funeral, after she had tried to invite him to the ceremony, a newspaper said Friday.

The family were leaving the cemetery near Lille, Wednesday when one of them noticed a temporary wooden gravestone bearing the son's name and date of birth in an area reserved for poor people.

"In two or three seconds, everybody started to scream," the man's father Elie Langlet told La Voix du Nord newspaper. "Josiane (the mother) collapsed. She buries her brother and finds her kid in a grave near him. It's unthinkable," he said.

The local council confirmed the father of one, Olivier, had died on July 5 from natural causes.

Josiane Vermeersch said she had tried to contact her son a few days before to invite him to his uncle's funeral, to no avail, and had thought he was ignoring her after a row.

"Someone hasn't done their job," she told news channel I-Tele. "I demand explanations," Vermeersch said, adding it was unbelievable in a time of modern technology that nobody had attempted to contact the family.

Citing the funeral parlor that buried the man, the newspaper said it was not uncommon for families not to be informed if there is no immediate contact address.

French law stipulates that a burial must take place within six days of a death.

Chile miners 'in better spirits' after family talks
The men have been sent dry clothes, food supplies and entertainment The 33 men trapped in a mine in northern Chile say they are in better spirits after they were able to speak to their relatives by telephone.

The news came in a video message the miners sent up to the surface.

Engineers are due to begin drilling a rescue shaft to reach the men, who have been now trapped for three weeks at San Jose gold and silver mine.

The shaft, going about 700m (2,300ft) underground, is likely to take 90 to 120 days to complete.
