Hi, I'm new in here , I've read a lot of post and a lot of persons here looks really knowleageable so I thought maybe somebody could help me. Here is my problem. I just got 3Mbits/0.8Mbits DSL connection yesterday.

Here are the results I have:

::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 1031 Kbps about 1 Mbps (tested with 748 KB)

Download Speed is:: 126 KB/s

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Test Time:: Wed Feb 16 2005 17:39:01 GMT-0500 (Est)

Bottom Line:: 18X faster than 56K 1MB download in 8.13 sec

Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 60.72 % of your hosts average (sympatico.ca)

Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/id-YGEL3JSIN

::.. Upload Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 622 Kbps about 0.6 Mbps (tested with 579 KB)

Upload Speed is:: 76 KB/s

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Test Time:: Wed Feb 16 2005 17:39:47 GMT-0500 (Est)

Bottom Line:: 11X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 13.47 sec

Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 72.3 % faster than the average for host (sympatico.ca)

Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/id-0WMUK5Y1O

I live in Canada By the way. I think my upload is normal (maybe a bit slow) but my download is definitly not. The strange thing is that I ran the test yesterday and I was about at 2.6 Mbits. Today, it's stuck at about 1. I'm using a SpeedStream 5200 Modem.

I don't know if it can influence, but in my book it's said to have a line that is no longer than 6 feets but mine is 20 (My appartement configuration is weird lol)

Anyway, Thanks In Advance. Every Input will Be Aprreciatied

Thanks a lot again,

Is it what you wanted ?

1. Your Tweakable Settings:

Receive Window (RWIN): 63888

Window Scaling: off

Path MTU Discovery: ON

RFC1323 Window Scaling: OFF

RFC1323 Time Stamping: OFF

Selective Acks: ON

MSS requested: 1452

TTL: unknown

TTL remaining: 116

2. Test 146000 byte download

Actual data bytes sent: 146000

Actual data packets: 101

Max packet sent (MTU): 1492

Max packet recd (MTU): 1492

Retransmitted data packets: 0

sacks you sent: 0

pushed data pkts: 5

data transmit time: 0.369 secs

our max idletime: 210.1 ms

transfer rate: 151169 bytes/sec

transfer rate: 1209 kbits/sec

This is not a speed test!

transfer efficiency: 100%

Thanks again

looking good, keep visiting and tell your friends about this site  :D

you wanted me to explain what happend

the default TCP settings on win 98 and ME is basicly made for LAN connections with very low ping

if you have a low ping you wont need a big receivebuffer ( RWIN ) to get a fast transfer rate

here is a defenition of RWIN

"DefaultRcvWindow - This parameter determines the maximum TcpReceiveWindow size offered by the system. The receive window specifies the number of bytes a sender may transmit without receiving an acknowledgment. In general, larger receive windows will improve performance over high (delay * bandwidth ) networks. For highest efficiency, the receive window should be an even multiple of the TCP Maximum Segment Size (MSS)."

the RWIN can be calculated, if you know the MSS, latency and the Bandwidth your ISP offer

Thanks a lot for the explanation Van Burren  :lol: Been Really helpful

Last thing I don't Understand. I'm a student and this is my father's old computer when I was still living at my fathers home. I was having a 6000/768 Cable connection there. How come I never had that kind of problem?

;)  When I was running Win 98se from this location 2 years ago 98se ran alot faster than XP now does....the main problem was that it crashed and locked up frequently.... :( but when it was running good it was fast, also of course 98se doesn't have near the features that XP has and I'm very happy with XP and wouldn't go back to 98se for any speed.....
