I'm sure everyone knows at least one of these: Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne. Counter strike, Left 4 dead, Call of Duty.

Garena enables LAN games through the internet.

Usually a lot of people claim to not see the "created games". Some have delay and lag problems.
An awful lot of people are using this program, not sure if it's really online gaming though.

It was formerly known as GG-Client. I'm sure you've seen it at google by now.
