Apparently, the swine flu is over in """Canada"""".
Shit. This spring cold season, which led to a long term cough, was worse than the Flu around here(for the cold, a few people went into the hospital for pneumonia. One old guy did die from it).
We had the swine flu too(or at least thats what the doctor told the wife and kid). Barely a sniffle.

OTTAWA —The World Health Organization may announce the official end of the H1N1 pandemic within days.

The virus has killed more than 14,000 people worldwide since April 2009 and prompted a mass vaccination across Canada, where more than 400 people died.

Responding to media reports suggesting WHO might declare the pandemic ended this week, Tim Vail, spokesman for federal Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq, said on Sunday there has been a drastic drop in H1N1 cases since its second wave in late 2009.

“WHO has been considering declaring the pandemic over — and I wouldn’t be surprised if they did,” he said on Sunday. “We have been seeing a decrease in H1N1 cases.”

A spokesman for the Public Health Agency of Canada, which co-ordinated the government’s response to the flu, said that the agency is typically informed of such decisions ahead of time, but had heard no formal plans as of Sunday to declare an end to pandemic.

well apparently this flu season the flu shots will also contain the vaccine for H1N1...so this is crap in my book...this will be the first of many years that i won't be getting the flu shot unless there is the option to get one without the H1N1 vaccine in it...

freaking bullshit...try to sneak one in on me...that's why we read the fine print...i haven't found the article on this yet so this info must not be out there on the surface...grrrrr

i'm still digging...but saturday i also got a flyer in the mail from walgreens drug store saying i could get my flu shot there and in the question and answer section it asked "will i have to get a separate H1N1 vaccine shot?" answer " no this years flu vaccine also contains the vaccine for H1N1"

it says go to walgreens.com/flu ima check that out...

that says go to www.cdc.gov/flu for more information

I'm not sure at what point in your life your directed to get a flu shot , I mean none of us ever did , you get the flu and your body makes the counterpart , this way you dont get the same thing again , and you keep your ability to manufacture and combat virus's.

I can see if somethings really bad , like a snake bite , or fallout pills to protect the thyroid , I just dont subscribe to this constant "nanny viral injection " thing. I mean seriously , theoretically in my meager mind this moves the human race back in biological evolution over generations of supplying what the body naturally makes , it took all this time to get to this point , now turn back by babysitting our immune system ?

Anyhow , I suppose we'll be seeing the hype again this year , lets just hope it's hype again.

I get these flue shots every year so I don't end up in the Hospital like in the past! I've had the N1H1 with no side affects at all. When I go to the Hospital for flue infections I end up staying for 4-6 days at a crack. I hate the hospital!!!

Well in your case I can see it , screw that , if you need it then go get it without hesitation I agree. I guess I could have said the mandatory part was what I wasn't in agreement with. As all of us dont fit into that category, hell those that do , will seek it out on there own yes ?

It might not be for everyone but it is for me. The difference is it was my choice to do so! I like many other free thinking individuals do not like the term Mandatory! Its my body and it should be my choice! Right!

Gonna be interesting the media this year on it all I suppose. I hope for everyones sake the spread of whatever might be new this year isnt too bad. I know people that get the shot , one of them gets real sick every year anyhow , one gets sick as hel when they get the shot , and one never gets the flue , i suppose it all depends on the person.

As for myself , maybe once every 5-7 years do i get flu like , yuk , cant stand it. Been I think at least 3 years , I suppose I'm due.

UK Docs and microbiologists for 10 years ,
I noticed they all said no thanks to Flu shots ,
and for the record 60% were smokers ,

BTW, flu shots are free to the over 55's in the UK
and I love free things , but my Doc tells me untill horse flu becomes epidemic not to worry ?

i'm in the same boat as coknuck...respiratory issues (asthma) and i get pneumonia easily...plus i work in a hospital...so i'm exposed constantly...i get the shot i don't get sick...one year...9 years ago...i didn't get the shot...i got the flu and pneumonia to go with it...not fun at all...and i didn't get it that bad that time...christmas trees have made me sicker (severe allergy) but even that not so much since i quit smoking several years ago...

and folks...flu lives in your lungs...not your intestine...

i need my flu shot...but not the h1n1 damnit...

well...update...a couple of weeks ago i gave in...i got mine...no ill effects... but i had to...or risk being very sick...plus in the hospital if you opt out you sign a paper stating that you understand that in doing you put yourself and all the patients you come in contact with at grave risk...due to the fact that there is a period where you are contagious with no symptoms. i couldn't walk around feeling like a human car bomb waiting to go off...but also if i get the flu i'll get sicker than some and i'm a weenie

So this shot you got, was it straight up, on the rocks or was it mixed with something ??????

not sure muddy...but with my asthma if i get the flu i would get super sick...so it's a precaution i have to take

the one year in 2001 that i forgot i got sooooo sick that i swore i'd not miss another one
