£6 (9.5USD) tax on telephones to pay for fast broadband access

A charge of 50p per month is to be levied on all landline telephone bills to subsidise the Government's plan to bring broadband internet access, and faster download speeds, to every home in the country by 2012.

The move is part of proposals for a "digital revolution" to overhaul Britain's internet infrastructure, as well as the media and telecommunications sector. The much-anticipated Digital Britain report was presented to MPs yesterday by the Culture secretary Ben Bradshaw, who said it would help the UK to secure a competitive, low-carbon economy within five to 10 years and "accelerate Britain's recovery from the biggest economic shock the world has seen since the war".

Internet pirates 'should be named and shamed'

Lord Carter announced tough measures to stamp out illegal downloading yesterday, saying internet pirates would be named and shamed and could face criminal prosecution.

The film, music and computer games industries estimate they lose millions of pounds a year from illegal downloading and file-sharing.

The Digital Britain report said that infringing on another's intellectual property or file-sharing without payment was "in plain English, wrong" and piracy of intellectual property for profit was "theft and will be pursued as such through criminal law".

I don't file share but,,,,,, I also see the reports wording of 'File Sharing For Profit".

And as with any action. It needs to be done with legal methods and not just a 'cut the user off' due to an 'accusation' of file sharing.
I am for the methods of "if a person breaks the law(AKA, CopyRight Infringement by massive file sharing), that the copyright Mafia should call the police to check into the infringing IP address and press charges, if evidence warrants it. Instead of the current promoted methods of send three warning letters and cut the user off. There is the 'Right of Innocence'. And it is legally up to a court to determine innocence or guilt to terminate a users connection.
I lost the link from today, but Virgin Great Britain and the CopyRight Mafia have a new deal to 'glitch' a file sharers internet connection when 'accused' of file sharing. In North America, we call it 'throttling' certain protocols.

And with the naming to shame a user. How many 'Johns' have been shamed/named in public to provoke him to never visit a hooker again? Since once their name gets out and the wife kicks his azz to the curb. He is going to be visiting more hookers to get his relaxational needs met.  :3some:

France PM gets his azz handed to him with a side of fries.

Virgin said that it will not spy on the download behaviour of its customers or intercept traffic. Instead, it plans to warn those accused of downloading copyrighted content, based upon evidence provided by the music cartel's third party tracking companies.

Those who receive multiple warnings will have their Internet connections suspended, from "a few minutes to a few hours."

........ appears to be a legal challenge waiting to happen. The EU has opposed doing anything to filesharers unless there is a court order.

You guy's may shunn me foe this, but whatever lol, in the future, there will be no need for the extreme competition there is now, and all data will be shared alike , from operating systems, to a silly song. Why do I say this ? Because the human race will only survive once we understand how connected we are, and that we need each and every brain cell available to join together in an mutual understanding of perseverance  for enlightenment and the furthering of positive human genetic sequence into the forthcoming generations.

Git it ? So all this is a pile of bull, waiting to be stomped out.

The Digital Britain report advocates the latest step in the war against illegal downloaders, requiring ISPs to write them notification letters and monitor persistent offenders. But what of the other side of the fight against piracy, the effort to win hearts and minds?

well thats one way to win hearts and minds,  LOL
