I've been playing around with PS and GIMP. I was wondering how you get the real brite spots or the lightning bolt look?

#2 i assume youre referring to the flash spot on the barell of the gun, you can do that in photoshop under filter > render > lens flare, than you can choose the spot and how intensifying the light is. you can also put it under the gradient to get it the same color as the background (if you use grandients for overlay)

What about 4 the same thing? I just started playing with this about a week or so. I made my sig. I've learned to cut images and do easy back grounds.

the one with the monsters n the girl? im pretty sure i used the color burn / dodge tool and brushed along the edges of the fire.

cutting images is a pain in the ass. i rarely do it because its time consuming. i usually just get my renders from planetrenders.net

for backgrounds, just download brushes and play around with settings like setting layers to color dodge or soft light after you do your background

for example, start with a black background, put some cool brushes on top of it, make a new layer and make a gradient over it, set the gradient layer to soft light and you have a cool looking background. :) of course that's very basic, but there's plenty of tutorials online when you get used to using photoshop itself

no doubt. PM me your AIM screenname if you have one and i can help you out tonight if you have any questions

its really all about trial and error. my first sigs looked like i did them in paint, but as i learned how different parts of photoshop play with eachother and learned to use the tools it comes out 1000x better.

(even i dont know how to use every utility within photoshop) lol

What you think of this for a first time try? I started with a metal textured back ground!

Thanks! Your right you just got to mess with it a lot. I got a question after you cut an image how do you save it so you can use it again? In Gimp I give it a file extension of .xcf what do you use with PS.

cut out an image, place it on a new file without any background and save it as a .png file. that way you can just use magic wand and cut out the background with 1 click after you render it

also, just a tip, when you cut out stuff in photoshop, use magnetic lasso and set frequency to like 200, that way it gets all the edges, after that you can just go over the spots you didnt get with the regular lasso.

also if you set feather to 5px or so you dont get nasty sharp looking edges if you dont cut it out perfectly

if you want to use the image above just click the magic wand anywhere on the background, right click and press select inverse, that way it'll select the image instead of the background.

magic wand doesnt work well unless the image has a plain background.

Well that works like a charm,Thank you. Where did you learn all this? I like the frosted look over the face and then the image on top. Real cool looking.
