ive always liked Mandriva and OpenSuse. ubuntu never worked with my old computer's display drivers, so i never got a chance to really use it.
Tdawnaz, has there been any problems besides the printer issue? if not, i may end up doing a dual boot on my laptop.
it sounds as thought it has quite a few improvements from when i used it, now im very interested in trying it again. Thanks for your posts everyone.

as far as i can recall, most (if not all) HP all in one printers work. and i've also heard of Canon and Epson printers will also work. but ive also heard that Epson printers use quite a large amount of ink.

Note that some of the anti-virus products will just identify a virus and quarantine it.
A Windows virus can run in Linux if you have 'Wine' installed to run some Windows programs.
If you hit a site with one of those fake virus scanners in Linux, you can laugh at it, with it saying you are infected in a Windows machine file system.
But not many virus can attack Linux with it being open source and the OS constantly updated for any virus threat. And it is more fun to make a virus for Windows machines with all it's exploits.

found my perfect printer...hp officejet 6500A all-in-one...scanner copier printer fax also does eprinting...haven't figured that one out yet...but i've gotten the rest of it up and running...it's awesome

Iv'e yet to get the lexmark running with linux ( haven't tried lately ) But I'm glad to hear you have a nice printer working now 
HP makes a good machine, I had one for years and it was used like crazy flawlessly.

You need to worry more about rootkits than viruses. I install rkhunter on every Linux box I run and it has always worked well for me. http://rkhunter.sourceforge.net/ Can do a few basic things as well to keep the script kiddies from attacking such as changing ssh port and disabling root, locking root access to IP things like this

Hi tdawnaz,
yeah it has been a really longtime. Life threw some curve balls that took me awhile to sort out. But now things are getting back to being somewhat normal so hopefully I can stick around
Your welcome for the advice. Linux is really the way to go and I am writing that from a windows box lol. I still like some convenience
