Google Celebrates Chrome's 2nd Birthday with New Stable Release

Google on Thursday released an updated version of its Chrome browser, which promises faster speeds and a simplified interface.

The new stable version of Chrome is three times faster in terms of JavaScript performance than it was when the browser debuted in 2008, Google said in a blog post. http://googleblog.bl...-of-google.html

Google has also been working on "simplifying the 'chrome' of Chrome," wrote Brian Rakowski, a Google product manager.

Google combined Chrome's two menus into one, move button locations, cleaned up the URL box and Omnibox, and adjusted the color scheme (click above for larger screen shot).

"As always, we're hard at work on making Chrome even faster, and working on ways to improve graphics performance in the browser through hardware acceleration," Rakowski wrote. "With the Chrome Web Store, we hope to make it much easier to find and use great applications on the Web."

Last month, Google released a developer preview of its Google Web Store. Developers can now upload apps, experiment with packaging, and install them in Chrome. There are reports that store will make its debut in October.

Rakowski also said Google has "ratcheted up the pace of our releases so that we can get new features and improvements to everyone more quickly."

Wow, it's already two years old. I didn't know that.

It's my personal favorite but I also use Safari... and of course Firefox, Opera and IE so that I can make sure everything here is compatible for our users.

I just like the feel of Chrome

Here's the top 10 browsers that users of testmy.net have used in the past 30 days.

1.	Internet Explorer 41.45%
2.	Firefox 34.59%
3.	Chrome 12.62%
4.	Safari 8.01%
5.	Opera 2.37%
6.	Mozilla 0.25%
7.	Opera Mini 0.21%
8.	Mozilla Compatible Agent 0.12%
9.	SeaMonkey 0.10%
10.	Playstation 3 0.06%

And here's what that looked like two years ago

1.	Internet Explorer 57.04%
2.	Firefox 36.23%
3.	Safari 3.32%
4.	Opera 2.63%
5.	Mozilla 0.45%
6.	Playstation 3 0.08%
7.	Netscape 0.06%
8.	Konqueror 0.05%
9.	Mozilla Compatible Agent 0.03%
10.	Playstation Portable 0.02%

Safari has come up a lot in 2 years. I like that drop in IE. What is the top version of IE that comes to TMN?

1.	8.0 74.44%
2.	7.0 14.11%
3.	6.0 11.35%
4.	999.1 0.06%
5.	9.0 0.03%

That's over the last 30 days... 9.0?!?! Obviously that's people test driving the new IE.

999.1 ------ that looks to me like someone who hacked the browser ;) (IMO)

I pulled stats from two years ago on IE versions used and that 999.1 came up again.... now I'm questioning my previous statement.

1.	7.0 63.97%
2.	6.0 34.20%
3.	8.0 1.56%
4.	5.0 0.12%
5.	5.5 0.07%
6.	5.01 0.03%
7.	5.23 0.03%
8.	999.1 0.02%

Also, it's kinda crazy that two years ago the site was being hit with "9.0" when now... two years later 9.0 isn't even released. Who knows... I'll let our users deduce what that implies.

I dont mind chrome , I went ahead and grabbed it when you suggested it to me Ca3le.

For some reason I just feel as if everything I am doing while using it , I am being indexed. hahahah

None the less , the browser works great , no issues at all, kinda reminds me of an early firefox , maybe even netscape with a twist.

Most the time I'm using coda anyhow.

Yup , thats the one.

Since I'm editing either CSS or any number of php , html whatever for the better part of my time , I just use it.

I should take a speed test , or see if it will , hang tight , I'll post in the downloads section if it goes forward.

EDIT:

Figured I might as well post it here. Looks like it uses webkit. Although not optimized for speedtest , broswing and working is flash lighting fast as should be expected.
