I've lived in Arizona my whole life and I've never seen one of these.  Until now I thought they were only in the Middle East but apparently they are here as well.

They are called Sun Spiders here according to my research.  This one is over 3 1/2 inches long stretched out.

I put a cockroach in with him and after he calmed down from the initial capture I went to check on him, he was using his front antennae to try to escape... apparently they secrete a gluey substance that enabled them to grapple with prey and climb stuff..... anyways, I shook the container to get him off the wall and all of a sudden he struck the roach and started immediately devouring it... within 5 minutes the roach was nothing more than wings.

Sorry for the audio, there was a fan in the background.

Yeah, it's still alive... I caught a gecko a little bit ago and am trying to get it to eat it.  But it just ate that roach that's like 1/4 to 1/3 of it's weight so I don't think it'll be hungry for a while.  Hopefully I get it on video... otherwise I'll take a picture of what's left.  The gecko is about 2/3 his size so I think there's a good change it'll eat it.

check this out...

That one is much bigger.... but so is the lizzard, so I think it'll happen.

And don't post animal cruelty comments anyone... this happens in the wild, it needs to eat before I can release it out in the desert... I'm just trying to capture it on video.

Nice little friend you got there... lol... What did you do with him after he ate his lunch?

I came across this spider the other week. He was about 3 1/2 inches long or so.

Thanks . but no thanks ,

BTW , we don't have any spiders or snakes that are harmful to humans in the UK , only politicians

It still hasn't eaten that gecko.  I put a grasshopper in with him earlier and he ate it within a few seconds.... I think that maybe only the huge ones in Afghanistan will do that or something... it's like they became friends or something, lol.

EDIT: Is that spider related to the dreaded Camel Toe?

Still trying to nail down exactly what it likes to eat.  He chows down on roaches, moths and grasshoppers but I got some crickets at the store... it ate one and must not like them because they're just chillin' in there with him.  Moths are cool to watch it eat.  It grabs them in mid-air with those front antennae.  Like I said before, the tips of those secrete a kind of glue that it uses to capture and grapple with prey.  Very cool.

I picked up an aquarium for it, I just need to get it all setup for the little guy.  But if I can't get it enough of the food that it likes I'll be releasing it in the desert.  Sucks that it doesn't like crickets, those are easy to get at PetSmart or Petco... I've had to go out every night and hunt for it.  haha.
