I just got my Dell m101z notebook/netbook, powered by a 1.7 ghz K125 (so not very powerfull, but better than atom) and am looking for a small Linux distro for dual booting that I would use for taking notes as well as programming and remote connecting. I wont use it for anything multimedia, W7 will take care of that, but I still require a GUI. Extended battery options are a plus. Any suggestions?

I think right now linux  mint is something you should look into.  I have it on an old dell , wont even bother looking to see what the specs are , but it's light and fast. Boots quick also. The install takes eon's , but after that , your golden.

I stillk find a stripped down XP pro takes some beating ,  my note book (advent ) boots in less than 35 seconds ,
my desktop in less than 30

the advent has 30 mins batt power ,   fast booting counts    batts at $200  USD , note book value $20 USD , it's no contest :grin2:
Upon this gifted age, in its dark hour,
Rains from the sky a meteoric shower
Of facts... they lie unquestioned, uncombined.
Wisdom enough to leech us of our ill
Is daily spun; but there exists no loom
To weave it into fabric.
