The FCC this morning held a conference call with the press to announce the fact that the agency will approve the Comcast NBC merger with a few conditions. What conditions will those be? The FCC isn't saying, and the agency's press conference was murky at best with no questions allowed and the agency insisting everything discussed was on background -- meaning no direct quotes. The FCC stated they had several areas of concern, but believes the merger will be in the public interest with a few narrow conditions involving Internet video and the sharing of programming with satellite and telcoTV competitors. The Justice Department is conducting their own review of the merger to see if it violates antitrust law, but NBC executives have been circulating a memo claiming full approval should come in January.
