As was expected, T-Mobile today at CES formally announced that the company will be upgrading their HSPA+ network later this year in order to provide theoretical speeds up to 42 Mbps. Users in the real world will see speeds half that, or significantly less. T-Mobile told attendees that their own drive tests on this front in Las Vegas supposedly topped out at 8.5 Mbps, while they were able to demonstrate stationary speeds of 28.6Mbps at CES today. T-mobile, clinging to the dubious claim that they operate the country's "largest 4G network," repeatedly insisted there was "very little difference" in the technology they'll be deploying this year and LTE wireless broadband service. In a small dig at the $10 "just because" fee that Sprint charges to access their faster network, T-Mobile also proclaimed they won't charge an extra fee to access the faster network.
