A new survey by ChangeWave Research suggests that AT&T's customer loyalty rate is eroding and their churn (customer defection rate) is increasing, with most customers citing  poor reception/coverage (42%) as their top reason for leaving, followed by dropped calls (27%). While only 4% of Verizon customers plan to switch carriers in the next 90 days, 15% of T-Mobile and AT&T customers plan to switch.

16% of current AT&T customers say they'll switch to Verizon now that they offer the iPhone, and 23% don't know if they'll switch. 26% of current iPhone owners say they'll switch to Verizon.

Granted, once many of these customers remember they have a $325 ETF (perhaps slightly less, being pro-rated), they might not actually follow through. As for good news for AT&T, ChangeWave says AT&T's dropped call rate (see graphic) is improving, but still is significantly higher than Verizon.

"The Verizon iPhone is causing a major transformational shift in the wireless industry, and for now the momentum clearly favors Verizon," insists ChangeWave.

i work at a locally owned auto repair shop that is located between two small towns in texas. i see numerous customers with frustrated looks trying to make or receive calls from all the major carriers. It seems no one covers all areas so if you are planning to switch because of coverage you would be ahead of the game if you checked out the service before hand. I have AT&T but when im at work no voice calls. But you can text me and it will come through. I have a fellow employee on verizon and his is the same. 6 of on half dozen of the other until someone comes up with true national coverage i will stay with my android 2.1 on my backflip with AT&T. just my 2 cents worth
