Though it's not precisely clear how many people care (aside from Bluetooth headset business whirling dervish types), some carrier marketing departments (AT&T, T-Mobile) have traditionally enjoyed mocking Verizon's network/smartphones for the inability to do voice and data at the same time. That could change shortly however, given that leaked information concerning the upcoming LTE-ready HTC ThunderBolt on Verizon's network suggests it's capable of simultaneous voice and data -- at least in LTE areas. True voice over LTE hasn't been finalized yet, so Verizon and HTC have designed some way for the phone to seamlessly use LTE for data and CDMA for voice using two different radios within the device. Note that at the end of their CES keynote, Verizon stated not all upcoming LTE smartphones would support simultaneous voice and data.
