Speaking <a href="http://www.rcrwireless.com/article/20110120/CARRIERS/110129996/t-mobile-usa-targeting-no-3">at an investor conference today in New York City</a>, T-Mobile declared their intention to leapfrog Sprint and become the nation's third largest wireless carrier. In addition to the company's new ad campaign that takes more serious swings at AT&T and Verizon, T-Mobile continues to push their HSPA+ network toward theoretical speeds of 42 Mbps, and says they'll have 87% of their HSPA+ towers fed with fiber backhaul by the third quarter of this year. A report in <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE70J0V320110120">Reuters</a> claims that interest in acquiring some of Clearwire's substantial spectrum is dwindling, with T-Mobile now the only company seriously considering the idea.
