I use Witopia's VPN and my provider is Embarqmail.com (now called Centurylink). I wonder if the VPN affects my download/upload speeds. Thanks.

Hi there mmacdona, Welcome to testmy.net.

i don't have much experience with VPN's however if data is passing to or from your PC through your VPN it will take away from your connections bottom line, whatever that may be.

for example if your uploading any information through the VPN and only have 1Mbit upload you will see a serious performance hit depending on how fast that file is leaving your network it could entirely monopolize your connection.

i hope someone with more experience in VPN's will chime in
