The Greek economy is on life-support.The country of Greece is on the precipice of financial ruin. Two years of tax increases and wage cuts, designed to aid the declining Greek economy, have largely failed, leaving the private business sector in dire straits. According to the Greek Co-Federation of Chambers of Commerce, nearly 70,000 businesses failed in 2010, and nearly one-sixth of the remaining 300,000 business are close to bankruptcy. And who’s to blame for this looming financial catastrophe? The Greek people. The Greeks are unwilling to make the necessary sacrifices to save their economy. The rapidly failing Greek economy is a victim of the Greek ...

I saw that in factories in Pittsburgh in the 80's. When much of our steel was being moved over seas because of high wages, the workers would rather  be  broke than admit lower wages to stay afloat. And so day after day the companies went deep 6 with no return. The only very few companies stayed alive took the drop and lived to fight another day. I don't feel sorry for them if that is solely true. And I am sure the unions once more did not really care.

No your right tommie , the unions care not , they are worldwide , they own the very mines that dig the ore, most if not all companies that do anything with steel.

As well as any other natural resource , or anything that has to do with moving a product or natural resource. They own healthcare , doctors , from the guy that opens the door at the rits , to the politician that has been in office for generations that works closely with ambassadors of Greece. To the transportation that moves all products to and from Greece, and every other country.

Talking personally to a businessman is Greece , I listen close to what he says, in my words , he says the government is gone all  communistic / socialistic , they take what they feel when they feel necessary from workers and business owners and every citizen. They want there moneys back , not only stopping what is going on , they want the funds back that have been stolen from the peoples. Fathom that.

So this is a fight of morals and mental strength. They are fighting for the very survival of there children. To be turned into slaves as a country is a terrible thing, to see it coming and experience the procedures taken to get there is another.  Many Greek have given up education to fight this.

I wonder if anyone knows why Greece is been attacked in such ways as it has, and what relation it has to the USA , directly.

Greece is heading ? it's already arrived ,about 6 months back , next in line is Italy, Spain, Portugal ,
France like America has lost it's AAA+ financial rating , the UK is just about hanging on ,
time will tell I guess , but the constraints and increased taxes are sure hurting over here in the UK  ,

I just have to ask Roco since you appear to say everyone is chipping in. Are your politicians taking a cut also? They to me should only get paid if less than 5% are out of work, I bet congress could get America  back to work then. They'd definately work the midnight oil if they thought they was gonna work for free till it happened.

Indeed they have Tommie , no pay rise for the previous 2 years , and a pay cut of 5% this year ,
but then our Political system has less Public interest in the UK ,
at the moment we have a collation government , both major parties have combined for the duration of these times ,
so no point scoring or arguing going on ,
BTW , don't know how much your president gets per year , But the British Prime Minister gets $225,000 P.A.
,about the average pay of a Cruise ship Captain,

Its not what they get in pay, (Presidential Salary, $400000 annually) its all the extra's they get. Vote for this and this company hands them an envelope full of cash. You get the drift, and a sweet retirement package. And an awesome  healthcare package to none. And go to jail? Its like golf and special meals all  the time. Only drawback they can't leave. Short of murder that is. Plus take a trip and blame it on political and its all expenses and living luxury all the way, family included. ONe round as president and its easy street the rest of their life, although most live pretty good anyway. I never heard of a broke congressman ever. <wink>

Here a waitress works for tips, the paycheck is pretty much kept for taxes. Sort of works the same for congress, they don't need the salaries really.

Ours has gotten a raise every year, its strange but they actually vote for their own raises as they see fit. Gotta love that. NOT ! ! !  :violent5:

Argh! America has no back stop , our Prime minister is just a state employee , Yes he gets expenses and a nice house for the duration , but he is part of the house of commons , above him sits the house of Lords ,they answer to the Queen , the Prime Minister and all members Parliament have their expenses checked . 5 got jail last year , the after term money comes from commercial ventures and after dinner speaking , our Prime Minister on $225.000 a year is Peanuts ,( London bankers make $2 Million a year in bonuses ,) certainly not a job for me , nor Royal Family , I like getting down and dirty with the folk in the street , never seen the Queen or Prime Minister laugh , Getting back on Topic , Greece , we are getting sad stories over here of Greek families handing in their children to church charities because the parents can't afford to feed them , ( very sad for Greeks as they are very family orientated ) the problem in Greece was the warnings were very clear some years back , but they ignored them , and many still do , but then haven't we all done the same ? , BTW, picture of "Boris" Londons Mayor ( his normal mode of transport )we don't do armour plated stretch limo's ,

I am glad someone has their politicians in  check, I wish we did. Obama would not be getting away with what he is now.

Has the UK got it’s politicians in check  ?
Not sure on that , but the screw is tightening ,
Politics UK , is kinda dead ,  most folk don’t vote anymore ,
(58%) they should count  as a disinterested vote IMO , ,
Indeed the writing is on the wall, western politics is failing
Just like the Titanic it’s hit the iceberg , it’s every man for himself,
The old rule of women and children first has been abandoned these days .

What happened to the truism
“think not of what your country can do for you , but what can I do for my country “
I despair these days , every political factor is appealing to the greed of it’s own group.
Nobody is looking to the future, beyond the Me Me factor ,

Just my thoughts ,
Hazy as ever
