I am upgrading from a linksys wireless g router to a dlink dir-655 wireless n router.
The new router will not connect to the internet, if i switch back to the old router all is ok.
I have tried automatic and manual setup and nothing seems to work.

Modems need to learn a routers mac address have you tried resetting the modem after you plug in the new router? I use that same router

okay so this is how i have my DIR 655 setup
you might try manually entering in the other routers MAC address and have the router broadcast that one maybe the modem will like it better or have it use your computers mac address
i recall having to do that when i first got the router
