AURORA — Twelve people were killed and dozens more were injured early Friday when shots rang out at an Aurora movie theater during a premiere showing of the new Batman movie.
A 24-year-old suspect in is custody and an apartment building in north Aurora connected to the suspect was being evacuated and searched for possible explosives, according to Police Chief Dan Oates.
Ten people died at the scene and two others died at hospitals.
Oates said there was no evidence of a second suspect, but the man in custody had made a statement about possible explosives in his residence.
Police have blocked off a three-block area around an apartment complex in north Aurora. Residents in the area said they were evacuated around 2 a.m. while police searched the third floor of the apartment building.



Sometime before 12:30 a.m., police received reports of gunshots at the Century 16 Movie Theaters at the Aurora Town Center.
Dozens of ambulances and police vehicles were outside the mall, where three theaters were showing "The Dark Knight Rises." Most of the wounded and killed were at Theater 9.
Police from all over the metro area had been called to the scene.
Witnesses said gunman wore a gas mask and was clad in black.
"Witnesses tell us he released some sort of canister." Oates said. "They heard a hissing sound and some gas emerged and the gunman opened fire."
A witness, Benjamin Fernandez, 30, said he was watching the movie when he heard a series of explosions. He said that people ran from the theater and there were gunshots as police shouted 'get down!"
Frenandez said he saw people falling, including one young girl.
Salina Jordan, 19, was in Theater 8 and saw people hit in her theater. She said one girl was struck in cheek, others in stomach including a girl who looked to be around 9 years old.
Jordan said it sounded like firecrackers until someone ran into Theater 8 yelling "they're shooting out here!"

What is wrong with the mental integrity of the general public to be putting out people the are so tore up inside for whatever reason , they feel they must do such terrible things ? Just amazes me that people cannot find a sane way to express themselves.

Long story short ................ the media. They have us that way. Nothing will ever be the same for generations to come. Not till we again have some control over them will morals and humanity return. IMHO of course. Free press has run amock.

I don't blame anyone but the mentally challenged youngster that plotted this massacre . Although I do give credit to the general media for more or less promoting this type , by not both excluding events from repetitive blasting , and from not renouncing when people gather in the name of violence. Which we've all witnessed in the last 12 months in America.

Albeit , it is the sole responsibility of the possible weapon holder to seek social assistance when having thoughts like this. It is not normal , nothing is good or right about it.
Message to anyone that might happen upon this at any time , if you know your feeling things that just are not normal , or your feeling like things are out of control and guiding you instead of you having control do not hesitate to privately let someone know , thats what reality means. Allowing someone else to guide you out.

what ever this man did in his life to want to do that i have no idea. i know that the reports said his apartment was booby trapped and filled with explosives...yet another thing that could have sent many innocent people to the hospital or worse. i wish the best for the families of and the victims themselves and give them my prayers.

Sad news indeed. I ain't going to comment on legally owned guns ,
( you go your way )
but I fear Mudmanc's quote of those feeling that way inclined etc ( a noble thought as is) will fall on deaf ears ,
Those that feel that way inclined will only get angry , the urge to kill innocents is indeed a horror is born from isolation IMHO,
maybe the wife will cut your throat in temper , but she won't kill neighbours kids ,
I don't see a conection with the media either , apart from a desensitizing way ,
maybe the urge to kill is being highlighted by violent TV/ Vid games ?

my thoughts , having been in the military with a loaded snipers .303 rifle , could I use it to kill , ? I figured not, unless he fired first ,
killing ain’t in my DNA , I don’t get voices in my head , ( apart from the EX )

Legally or not, if one wants guns they will always be able to get them. Illegal guns show up all the time here just the same for the right price as always.

Someone once quoted something to the effect of " what one generation accepts , the next generation embraces " .


We constantly allow political correctness and human rights groups to intervene in cases like this , diminishing the authority to properly decipher and articulate the proper punishment for these types of massacres. That in itself could be considered a social injustice.

By not showing societies un- approval, by the seriousness of proper punishment is a crime in itself. Allowing these cases to take valuable resources in media and the justice system is another violation of common sense. Due process is important , yet society cannot continue to glorify actions against itself. More or less making a media series of crimes, keeping people entranced by the details of political pundits, off kilter politicians , making a crime something of a ratings agenda.

Politicians and the likes grab opportunities like this to plunge there agendas turning the seriousness of the issue into something entirely offset from what has occurred.
