Installing Openoffice on ubuntu 14.04

I use libreOffice on all machines around here, just my opinion.

You should familiarize yourself with ubuntus' package manager "Synaptic" Though not sure if libreoffice or openoffice are in the extras repo.

If your going to install libreoffice ~

Open a terminal window and type

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa

(You'll need root password to get it moving) Unless you run the 'red' terminal or an escalated privileged shell

Then type

sudo apt-get update

If you have not run the updates yet, it'll grab a ton of goodies.

Run the Synaptic package manager and locate libreoffice. Should be explanatory from there.

Found better instruction on the ubuntu wiki

  1. Open a terminal window by pressing the Ctrl + Alt + T key combination

  2. Use these commands to add the repository:
    sudo apt-get install python-software-properties
    sudo apt-add-repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-4-2

  3. Update the packages list:
    sudo apt-get update

LibreOffice is now available for installation. One may now perform either selective or full LibreOffice installation.
