We've been talking about this for months, but now it's official: Optimum Online has announced they'll be upgrading all existing customers to 15Mbps/2Mbps (trials were at 20Mbps). They've also unveiled two additional tiers: Optimum Online "Boost" will offer speeds of 30Mbps/2Mbps for an additional $14.95 a month ($9.95 if you're a VoIP customer), and symmetrical 50Mbps service at an as yet unmentioned price-point. According to the company's press release, all of the new speeds should be available by the middle of 2006.

No way everyone will be able to get 50/50 and have a cap limit over 40 gb a month. it isn't going to be worth it and you probably still will start with a hosting cap on your line lol.

And you couldn;t do anyhting with it anyways , imagine a city trtying to give everyone that much up and down, i don't think anybody would even come within 20 mbps of there cap during the day and they would definetely block ports on it to.

I have seen some speed test of the people with the adelphia 16/2 service and they were saying they were lucky to get 11mb down even at night, I personally think with that advertised speed on cable is not gonna work out to well. Too much traffic, hopfully it wont be too long before we get some test results for those special people who r testing it.

Now that i'm thinking about it, what is going to happen when people start getting these new connections, Testmy.net definetely will not be able to handle 20 people simultaineously , aren't the servers only at most 1 gb connection with many others also using the line?

the testmy servers are run off of multiple gigabit connections I believe, but anyway. Yes those speeds are sick, T3/DS3 speeds for only about what? id say no more than $100/month. Yet, it is cable and a publically shared line so it will suffer from all of the things that plague it already. PLUS it is from OOL meaning the infamous phantom caps.....

testmy.net
We do have a fast server - testmy.net currently employees 2 servers both are Dual 2.8GHz Xeon, 2 GB DDR RAM, Rehat Enterprise Linux, MySQL server, Apache Webserver, PHP, 100 Mbps uplink to a 16 Gbps Direct Fiber network.  testmy.net knows what kind of server is needed to get correct test scores to all users regardless of time of day and server load.  (also see Net
