Property Wireless Signal Please help!

19 December 2009 - 11:27 PM

Ok I have 6 acres. 1 house, a 60x60 concrete shop/hangout above where currently the router and modem are at. The house as nothing for net right now, but has a laptop in it. I need to get signal to the house that is 120 ft away

I have a wrt54gs v1 or v2 with DD-WRT firmware on it(I love it, the firmware).

I have a computer upstairs and a computer downstairs in the shop( wired ). I need to know the best way to get strong signal to the house from upstairs above the shop. I currently have the WRT54gs with external antennae and stand Posted Image with the http://images.google...nnae&hl=en&um=1

I can get signal from the shop to the house but it drops now and then and is slow 11mb :(.

There is a netgear wireless n router WRN2000 over in the house but no modem... I can't get the router to act as a wireless access point to catch signal and send it back out.. But the DD-WRT firmware on my WRT54gs can, and does but it's only 17-18% strength from the house to the shop with the above listed eqiupment. So...................

Options

1. Better wireless N router?
2. Better antennae for the G router
3. Powerline Ethernet(how is signal degradation?)

Ethernet is out of the question as it would be over 400ft of cat5e or cat6.

Lets here what you guys use or have or know of that will work.

I would like to stick with Linksys if possible, but seeing those prices of 249 for the professional grade router is kinda out of the question.

Thanks guys.

I am having a jacked up time with speed tests only on my computer and it just started.

I've elimintated the following:

spyware(that was detected) modem was reset, router was reset and removed from the network

I'm getting anywhere from 18-109mb download speed at various sites and my normal 720-736kbps upload(RoadRunner teir 3 was dumbfounded and wanted a video so i got him one.)

I'm posting it and pictures for you guys as well.

I've reset the tcp/ip, i've tried optimizing (I HAVEN'T TRIED CABLENUTS YET BECAUSE I COULDN'T FIND ONE THAT WAS CLOSE TO MY 15-768(WITH TURBO FOR DOWNLOAD SPEEDS BURTS UP TO 22)

When the net wasn't screwing up I was averaging about 19-26mb download
tracerts are fine, pings are fine

Wanting to build a new pc, gaming, computing, everything

18 December 2007 - 08:07 PM

I was wanting a quad core 2.4 with gigs and gig of ram with a nice 512 gfx card, but I was told by a guy I talk to regularly at the local pc shop that the quad cores run hot and only use 2 of the cores 80% of the time so the other 2 are sitting there. he said everything is written around single and dual core.

so my question is do I build a quad core with 8 gig ram and a kickass gfx card with sli capabilities and wait for programming to catch up to it?

or do i build like a dual core 3.0 with 4-8gig ram?

I play a couple online games, and I like moving files around, downloading, gfx and some video editing.

fill me in guys
