In Topic: Google's New Browser "Chrome" What do you guys think

Google Chrome is supposed to accept Java plugin. It currently requires Java 6, Update 10, which is a Beta release and may not be as stable as what you’re used to. You can get it here:

http://java.sun.com/...ownloads/ea.jsp

The Google help forum says you should get an option to automatically download the option, but I can confirm that I did not. I downloaded the installer, passed on getting OpenOffice.org installed on my machine, went through about 5 minutes of total download and installation.

This fixed the "no Java Plugin" error that I was getting on dsl reports, however I still have a problem running test on here. It works when I change the encoding.

There is also a new update for Chrome that fixes a lot of the issues.

I have always been a fan of Goggle and like their approach to their software development.   When I received a cartoon in my "Gmail box" I  thought it was another one of their pranks we all know. I installed and all looked good and was planning on having fun exploring a new browser.
The first forum I ever joined was here because of the Speed test and long term stats that are kept here on www.testmy.net . This is the first place I come whenever I make changes. When I could not get a test to run here blew my day.. I figured I had to be missing something. I later logged in to my Steamcast server and found that I could not view the tail-logs on line. I started looking around in the groups and blogs  looking at comments and questions about Google Chrome. I don't write code but this has to be an easy fix. I wish some of those that are praising the speed and features would drop by here and test their speeds. . Hope there is a fix soon.

its not the modem its my cable signal.  when the cable guy came thru a while back he tested the signal on the line and it was like -4 or somethin like that.  they were able to get it up to like +5 for signal strength but its still really weak.  i deal with it.  its better then dial up.
After speaking to a tech friend at my mchsi head-end I was informed that the company specs for power level is from -7 dBmV to +7 dBmV.
He said he got best results anywhere from "0 to -5 dBmV" . A +5 and above may slow your speeds down. He had a couple of suggestions.
1. Run a diag on your modem while you are online and note your status... Depending on your modem it should show you info similar to what I have below.
2. If your signal is above +1dBmV try putting a 2way splitter just before the cable modem and check your speeds again.

Forward Path:
   Signal Acquired at 111.000 MHz
   SNR: 35.9 dB
   Recieved Signal Strength -4.5 dBmV
   Bit Error Rate  0.001%
   Modulation  64 QAM

Return Path:
    Connection
    Freq   31.5 MHz
    Power Level 48.8 dBmV
    Channel ID  5
    Modulation   QPSK

I had a speed issue for quite some time and it turned out the node was overloaded and a lot of noise on the line.
You may want to go to www.dslreports.com and check out the line quality test. There should be users from your area in the Mediacom forum found there.

Good Luck
