Microsoft Excel

06 December 2010 - 11:07 AM

Does anyone have recommendations for any websites or books that you can learn [advanced] Excel skills from?  I know I can just Google for stuff but I'm looking to see if there is anything that someone has had experience with.  I already know Excel pretty well, but I basically want to become an "Excel guru"...I'd put myself at an intermediate to advanced level right now.  Any suggestions would be useful.

Econ majors (or anyone else that has advice)

08 November 2008 - 01:05 PM

I know this is not related to technology at all...but if there are any Economics majors out there, please chime in.

Basically, I'm worried about getting a job.  I'm a junior in college right now, pursuing a BA in Economics, with a certification in Business Foundations (essentially a minor in Business).  I attend the University of Texas at Austin.  Originally I went to a private, liberal arts college out of state, but I ended up transferring to a college back in my hometown (realized that OOS just wasn't worth it...great experience...but not worth the extra $60,000 that it would require, especially considering I can basically go to in-state school for free if I live at home).

Now, UT Austin has a business school as well, and I was considering applying to there when I was transferring, but I decided to just stick with Economics because that's what I was doing already.  I didn't really think it would make much of a difference in the long run, but since the past few weeks I've been getting all paranoid and all (with the state of the economy, termination of many financial jobs, lay offs, etc).  I'm worried about getting a job after college (a real job, not something like a calling center or anything like that...that I could have just done right out of high school) because a lot of the types of jobs that I could have gone into (had I stayed at my previous school), are basically going to the Finance majors at UT Austin.  Some of my friends major in Finance, and it doesn't seem to be anything significantly more than an Economics major.  However, econ is in the liberal arts school at UT Austin, and thus, we don't get access to the business school (McCombs) career services, which are known to have an insane amount of resources available to students (to put it into scope, many students refer to McCombs students as "spoiled").  Accordingly, I know of many finance majors out there who have graduated and gone on to work for well known companies, making a pretty good amount of money.  However, I don't know anyone with degree's in Economics (and so, I don't really know if they too were successful or not).

I researched a little online, and a lot of sources make me think I don't really have anything to worry about, as long as I get an internship or two, and keep my grades up.

For some reason though, I feel like me transferring to UT to save money may have actually ended up screwing me over in the long run.

Anyone out there have any advice?  I'm going to speak with my adviser in the upcoming week, but I'm impatient so I want to see if I can get any other information during the weekend.  I'm somewhat spazzing out, I've pondered everything I can do.  I thought of adding pre-pharmacy to my major, but I don't think medical stuff is my thing.  I thought of doing engineering, maybe something related to mechanics, but I don't know much about it, and it's kind of late to be changing my major.  In the end I figure I just need to figure out how to make the most of my Economics major...there's gotta be a way...all these sources can't be saying that Economics is a great major for nothing.

Color problem on vista

07 August 2008 - 04:11 PM

I just got a new computer a few months back with Vista on it and I've noticed that there's an image distortion problem

Basically, anything image i look at in the standard windows picture viewer shows up with the wrong colors. I opened up Photoshop and it seems like I have the same problem with that as well. However, when I open up that same exact image in Paint, it looks fine.

Here's a picture of the problem:

Any idea what's up with this?

XBox 360 Controller for Windows

10 May 2008 - 07:19 PM

I have a spare Wireless XBox 360 Controller for Windows, and on the package it says it's "Dual Platform".  Does this mean that it will work with the 360 too (without having to buy anything else)?  I don't really have a need for it on Windows, but if it works on the 360 as well...then I figure I might as well just keep it (got it for free...thinking of ebaying it).
