I was watching a video on my desktop today (so nothing that stressed the PSU) when the power to the computer went off (but not the power to anything else in the room). I thought maybe it was a short current interruption, so I just rebooted, but while it booted fine, I started hearing crackling noises from my computer. After a few minutes, it shut down again, and this time when I opened my case there was a short-circuit smell (although no smoke). I turned the computer off and am not using it anymore until it is fixed, but I was wondering if that could be anything else than the PSU before I go ahead and get it RMA'd.
My current (seemingly malfunctionning) PSU is a Seasonic 650W that's about 4 years old. It's supposed to be a good quality and I always kept it well ventilated so I'm surprised that it would fail so soon, but I guess it's possible.

Looking For A Fast Booting Distro For A Netbook
20 September 2010 - 05:50 PM
I just got my Dell m101z notebook/netbook, powered by a 1.7 ghz K125 (so not very powerfull, but better than atom) and am looking for a small Linux distro for dual booting that I would use for taking notes as well as programming and remote connecting. I wont use it for anything multimedia, W7 will take care of that, but I still require a GUI. Extended battery options are a plus. Any suggestions?
Installing Steam And Its Steam Games In Different Directories
21 June 2010 - 04:43 PM
I'm about to reinstall my computer with a SSD boot drive and a HDD media/games drive, and I was wondering if there was a way to install steam games in a different folder than in the "apps" folder inside the steam folder. I would like the steam client to be on my SSD but the games to be on my HDD and I believe most steam games don't ask me where I want to install them. Thank you.
10 foot interface with W7 on a TV
03 December 2009 - 11:15 PM
I have recently installed W7 on my server which happens to also be used as a HTPC and a gaming PC. The movies and games are fine, but reading anything on the internet or on the settings in any program is just painful when you're sitting 10 feet away from the 1920×1080 screen. Is there a program that can modify the fonts to make them more readable at a distance? I have tried manually increasing the fonts and size of windows/borders with XP, which does make most of the text readable but also fugly. If there is no other solution, I guess I'll be making that again.
Judge John E. Jones III

I found out this guy existed today. Here are a two different biographies:
http://en.wikipedia....hn_E._Jones_III Wikipedia ofc but you might think it's biased to the left so I'll also offer you the right http://conservapedia...n_E._Jones_III. I especially like the last sentence of the first paragraph on that last link. I'd also love to give a super-biased biography to the left but it appears like there are no communists that want him to spontaneously catch fire so I didn't find any.
What I found particularly interesting is that the guy was put in office by George W. Bush and, according to some critics, by evangelical leaders, and his most important decision, Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District (http://en.wikipedia....School_District) went against the obvious interests of those who got him in that position. I find it inspiring that there are some people in the judiciary system that don't base their decisions on pork barrel. Then again, you might disagree and say that he was disloyal by not supporting those who helped him before. I just wanted to know what your opinion was on the guy. Independently of if you think his ruling was in accordance with the US constitution or not, and I believe most of us are not in a position to judge if that choice was appropriate since most of us have not studied in law school, did he do the right thing by backstabbing those who got him there?
