Not sure where others are getting any religion needs taught in school.
The purpose of teaching religion in school is to foster cultural understanding. How can we possibly form meaningful connections with people of different religions if we don't understand their points of view?

We merely were allowed to be taught to be proud of the country we live in...
Maybe we should let the individual decide whether or not his country is worthy of his pride.

what is wrong with nationalism or patriotism anyway
Nothing inherently. However, if not kept in check, it can foster conflict between nations.

Are you an american?
Yes.

Its just the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the US. Which would not be a bad thing to spread.
You're right. Pledging allegiance to one's nation is not inherently a bad thing. The problem is that we are spreading it by indoctrination rather than genuine sentiment.

And the laws say we can not pray in school.
Such a law does not exist. The first amendment ensures that such a law will never exist. You're not breaking the law.

The way I look at it our so called Government has been trying to rid Americans of their values so Socialism can be ushered in, better known as "New World Order". So you all might as well put your head between your knees and kiss your ass good-bye.
Well, yes, we are headed for socialism and have been for quite a while, but I think a lot of people have misconceptions about what socialism is. Socialism is just an economic structure.
Then why are religions taught in school then? undecided
The religion taught in schools is taught from a strictly educational perspective. It doesn't teach kids which religions are "right" or "wrong."
I don't blame it on the schools' date=' they do not make the rulings, the supreme court made most of them. They are the ones who need a brain check on those ignorant rules. knuppel2[/quote']
Actually, you should be blaming it on the founding fathers the country in which you so openly take pride.
Perhaps I should let Thomas Jefferson do the speaking.
... or James Madison. (Everyone should read this one.)
For the love of ... what was the pledge of allegiance in the morning to the US flag hurting anyway?
Nothing except the minds of the children. If you can say the pledge and mean it, power to you. However, schools have children memorizing and reciting the pledge well before they can actually understand it. Sounds like nationalist brainwashing to me.
Heck I pray for every meal I partake of for lunch with my girls' date=' yep even when I do my monthly lunch date with them at school. We pray in the school. Right there in the cafeteria. And guess what, no one says anything. My oldest does it whether I sit with her or not.[/quote']
Again, more power to you. As an individual, you have every right to do this. The school, however, as a state establishment, has no right to endorse religion.

It scares me that we have been adding about seven million people each month for the last year. For reference, the estimated population of Los Angeles as of July 1, 2007 was 3,834,340.
