Old School, PCMCIA - Card Bus

06 October 2008 - 07:56 PM

:uglystupid2:  :tickedoff:

Let start with the condition of my unit...

I have this perfectly working DELL latitude c840 laptop
with two card slots available
(those card slots supports type I, type II and type III cards)

i know that my two card slots are working perfectly, because i have
a belkin wireless network card that works perfectly on those two slots (either which one i choose)

Now this is the problem...

I just bought yesterday a generic (NO BRAND) pcmcia usb 2.0 card with NEC chip inside, and viola this type II card won't work with my latitude c840... as i mentioned before there are two card slots, i only use the upper card slot for the usb 2.0 pcmcia card
as i fear that i may damage the other slot (inserting the card is difficult and took a lot of effort, which normally should not be the case)

and when i insert the card in the upper slot, my computer hangs.. (no mouse pointer movement, keyboard won't work and alt+F4 won't do either) but when i removed the card things go back to normal...

now this is another bummer, when i inserted my belkin wireless network card in the upper slot the same thing happens, my computer hangs as if the usb card was inserted to it..

my belkin network card like i have said, works perfectly in either of those two card slots.. it is just when i inserted the usb card that things go out of place...

what do you think is the problem here?

i am worried that i have may permanently damage my upper card slot...

would anybody please put a helpful suggestion or insight to this problem...

thanks!

btw, i miss you guys here in tmn.. :smitten:  been away for so long...

Custom Computer Case (ATX/MicroATX)

22 June 2008 - 01:47 AM

Its been a while since I'm here.. whew lot of new "eye candies" I see..

Well, I noticed that there are a lot of EXPENSIVE case out there..
So I decided to build one for my self..I'm still on the design process.. working on it in CAD

I'm planning to build a full tower case, preferably even bigger..
that could accommodate two 120 mm front intake fans, and one 120 mm exhaust fan located at the top..
two 80 mm rear exhaust fan and one 120 mm chassis intake fan.

And if it's not that much, I'm considering putting space for HDD cooling fans.

Since having this many fans, i really picture out it to be a big case.
and building a big and spacious case can provide an ease of upgrading from air cooling to liquid cooling later when I decided to switch cooling system.

BTW, I am just planning to have  3 slots one for each of the following, HDD, FDD and DVD.

I came here to ask for your suggestion (Yes, you the one that is reading this post right now)
on the materials that is cheap and yet easy to work with as this would be a custom build from scratch.

What I have in mind is to use "acrylic glass" for the case (actually everything will be made of acrylic glass except for the screws).
then hand tap the mounting holes for the screws, since i don't have a drill here and i dunno if drilling it would make it crack.

Well, what do you think?
Do you have other things in mind?
A cheap and lightweight, yet sturdy and strong material that could serve as a computer case.. an advantage if it is clear or transparent, translucent will do too..

Oh, if you have custom made Case or a very unique setup
feel free to post their pictures here.
I'd be happy to see other's rig and I might get an idea as well.

Thanks!

1 GHz to 3 GHz

14 May 2008 - 08:08 AM

Hi guys, it's been a while since I last log in here...

I'm planning to experiment on O'cing.. and i remembered there is a post here about
an Intel processor something stock as 1.XX GHz that can be oc'ed up to 3 GHz..

But I can't remember the thread name and I can't find the thread..

Could somebody help me on this?

Thank you..

If not..

I would like to know what is the Cheapest Intel Processor that I could buy (for socket LGA 775) and can be safely and conveniently overclocked to 2.4 - 3.0 GHz
And what Cooling devices should i pair with them so they don't get toast in that setup..

BTW, If i OC'ed my Processor
Do i need to OC'ed my Video Card, RAM and the likes?

my system doesn't save this setting.. instead, everytime the computer boots i am left with an 800*600 screen resolution.. even after i had set the desire resolution it always go back to 800*600 whenever i restart the pc.
