freezing when running speed test or downloading file

18 June 2005 - 07:58 PM

I need help please guys, I have an hp dv1000 and so far it's a really good notebook except for one problem. When I go to do a speed test on this site or if I download a file it freezes and my speed on downloads can go from 160 KB/sec (my normal speed) to 24 KB/sec then go back up to 140 KB/sec and fluctuate between the two throughout the entire download. When I connect via ethernet I have none of these problems. I did a spyware/virus scan just incase and found nothing. I do have 2.4 cordless phones but in desperation I took the batteries out and unpluged the base and I still have the same issue. I have two routers both Linksys. One is an 802.11b and the other 802.11g both routers have the same thing and even in other areas I have the same issue (I took it to work to test it). So far I have uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless card, updated drivers, did a recovery, and finally ran van burdens cablenut settings for my 1500/256 DSL speed and so far nothing has worked. I'm at my witts end and I REALLY REALLY do NOT want to call HP's nonsupport line for help. Thanks a million in advance.

ATI all in wonder troubles

06 February 2005 - 10:32 AM

Hi, I'm unable to correctly install the drivers for my new ATI all in wonder card. I have completely installed all parts of my old Nvida and have upgraded my chipset for my AGP slot and installed the lastest ATI drivers. I have also completely reformatted my computer and started over to no avail. I think I have narrowed it down to the capture drivers because when I install the display drivers everything is fine. I run into problems as soon as I try to install the capture drivers at which time I get "We apologize for the inconvenience but Windows did not start successfully" and when I do a last known good then everything is fine but of course the drivers are installed. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance

upload problems

24 December 2004 - 07:47 PM

I am having a problem with my uploads...on both of my wired PC's (one has SP1 the other has SP2 I thought this may have been an issue so I uninstalled SP2 from one pc) before and after installing SP2 on both machines my upload speeds would test around

:::.. Upload Stats ..:::
Connection is: 188 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 579 KB)
Upload Speed is: 23 KB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Bottom Line: 3 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 44.52 second(s)
Validation Link :: http://testmy.net/cg...st_ID=P5GY91KBR

I am supposed to be on 1500/256 however on my laptop (wireless PCMCIA card) I get these speeds for my upload

:::.. Upload Stats ..:::
Connection is: 213 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 579 KB)
Upload Speed is: 26 KB/s
Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/
Bottom Line: 4 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 39.38 second(s)

I test the same for the download speeds and I am curious as to why my wireless PC test faster than my wired for upload speeds...I am using a westell 6100 PPPoE connected to a Linksys 802.11b router...mabey someone knows something I don't...thanks for the help
