Posted by Disorderedliberty on 25 September 2012 - 10:24 AM

Following is the prepared text of President Obama’s Speech to the UN General Assembly, given today:
Mr. President, Mr. Secretary General, fellow delegates, ladies and gentleman:  I would like to begin today by telling you about an American named Chris Stevens.
Chris was born in a town called Grass Valley, California, the son of a lawyer and a musician.  As a young man, Chris joined the Peace Corps, and taught English in Morocco.  And he came to love and respect the people of North Africa and the Middle East. He would carry that commitment throughout his life.  As a diplomat, he worked from Egypt to Syria, from Saudi Arabia to Libya. …

#335929 House Committee Files Civil Suit against AG Holder Demanding Release of Fast...

Posted by Disorderedliberty on 14 August 2012 - 11:39 AM

Disordered Liberty has previously commented on the ongoing investigation by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee [Committee] into the ill-advised Operation Fast and Furious, under which the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives [ATF] recklessly allowed approximately 2000 U.S. weapons to flow across the border into the hands of Mexican drug cartel members.
Weapons found near the site where U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was murdered were among those that the ATF allowed to fall into the hands of the Mexican criminal syndicates.
Although the Committee has received more than 7,500 documents from Attorney General Holder’s Justice Department, those documents represent only about 5 percent of the documents requested by the Committee in a subpoena issued October 11, 2011. …

#334322 Congressional Report Documents “Disastrous” Fiscal Mismanagement at DOE

Posted by Disorderedliberty on 21 March 2012 - 11:09 AM

Yesterday, a report released by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform [Committee] detailed the continuing, and shocking, fiscal mismanagement by the Department of Energy [DOE] with regard to its loan guarantee program.
Specifically, the report demonstrates that, in connection with the extensive Congressional investigation into the program, the Committee “has uncovered numerous examples of dysfunction, negligence and mismanagement by DOE officials, raising troubling questions about the leadership at DOE and how it has administered its loan guarantee programs.”
According to the report, because “[i]nexplicably, DOE management has turned a blind eye to the risks that have been glaringly apparent since the inception of the program[,]” DOE has “amassed an excessively risky loan portfolio” of $14.5 billion. …

#333988 Another Study Confirms that Fracking Techniques can be Conducted in a Safe Ma...

Disordered Liberty previously commented on a presentation last month by an independent panel of experts, not tied to the gas and oil industry, before the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Vancouver.
The presentation was based upon a recent study (released 02/15/12) by the Energy Institute of the University of Texas (Austin), entitled “Separating Fact from Fiction in Shale Gas Development,” which concluded that fracking techniques can be conducted in a safe and environmentally-friendly manner.
The fracking extraction process, also commonly known as hydrofracking, or hydraulic fracturing, consists of injecting water, sand, and/or chemicals deep into the ground in order to break up rock formations, which then results in the release of natural gas deposits. …

#333938 The Case against the Reelection of Barack Obama—the Short List

Posted by Disorderedliberty on 27 February 2012 - 07:08 PM

In 2008, when candidate Barack Obama was running for the Presidency, he based much of his campaign on inspiration and aspiration—the now-familiar mantra of “hope and change.”
Notwithstanding all of the noise and static caused by the Republican candidates’ current preoccupation with attacking each other, eventually President Obama’s reelection hopes this election cycle will hinge neither on inspiration nor aspiration.
Rather, the President must now run on his own Presidential record.
And, unfortunately for the President, that is not a good thing.
Following is a short list of reasons why Disordered Liberty believes that President Obama does not deserve to be reelected. …

#333313 Seven Reasons Why Obama Should Have Immediately Approved the Keystone XL Pipe...

Posted by Disorderedliberty on 21 January 2012 - 05:53 AM

As Disordered Liberty previously reported, last Wednesday President Obama rejected fast-tracking the approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline project, a huge construction project which would carry oil from Alberta, Canada to American refineries in Texas. There are numerous reasons why the President should have immediately approved this project. Fast-track approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline project would provide important domestic benefits for the U.S. 1. The U.S. badly needs additional sources of oil. Because of the limited availability and increasingly high prices of imported oil, the price of gasoline in the U.S. has nearly doubled since President Obama took office. Increasing the size ...

The Greek economy is on life-support.The country of Greece is on the precipice of financial ruin. Two years of tax increases and wage cuts, designed to aid the declining Greek economy, have largely failed, leaving the private business sector in dire straits.
