Charter in my area is known for sending a reboot command to the modems when they make changes.  At one time, my modem was restarting every night at 2 am on the dot.  this happened for about a week straight, This continued untill I disabled remote restart of the modem.  Now if they want to restart my modem they have to have a password. :haha:

The best I ever got on Comcast was about 8.5mbit down and 1.7mbit up. I had a 10/10mbit config but the node was limited on the upload.  I did this at a friends house just for an experiment.  We were impressed.  We would get about 1 MB/s download speed.

It seem that charter got their problems worked out a little.

My cousin works for Charter and he told me it was not possible to do this.  In order to have a provisioned modem, you must have the Internet Service.  They will not provision a modem for you unless you are paying for their internet service currently.  If you ask to have a modem provisioned and you don't have internet service they will catch it immediately and require you to get it before your cable modem's MAC address can be assigned to their system in any way.  In addition, when your modem "communicates" with their systems it asks for firmware and the bitrate at which it is allowed to operate.  If you are not assigned a service level, how will your modem know which config file to take?  It won't!  Internet service is absolutely required to gain access to the system.  Don't try this people...if you do you are wasting time and also money that you spent buying a modem.  Also, the comment about splitting off your internet service and watching TV without paying is also very unlawful and highly illegal.  Just because everyone else steals cable doesn't mean you should.  Do what you know is right.That is incorrect.  Basic cable is channels 1-13, +/- some (depending on your market).  Basic Expanded or Extended cable is 1-13 plus 50 to 80 more channels depending on your service area.  Pipeline is the internet service and has nothing at all to do with Basic Expanded or Basic cable.  They are two totally different areas of servicing.  Basic Expanded & Basic are TV and Pipeline is internet.

In order to have a provisioned modem, you must have internet service?  I strongly disagree with that statement.  Why you may ask.  Because I dont have internet  service through Charter and I am using the net now.....  Think about it.
