I just joined this website and I had to stick my 2 cents in this discussion because I just went with sbc yahoo for the last 2 weeks after being with coved for a year. I'm in a suburb of Chicago and coved is suppose to be the #1 provider for business in this area, for about $400 a month you can get a blazing fast T1 or T2 line, but for your average 1.5 residential line I was paying $54.95 a month and in the 1 year that I was stuck with them I never got over 768/308, after numerous calls to tech support of being told that I had a problem on my end and they cant do anything about it because I got the self install kit, they finally send someone out and installed a pots splitter next to the nid box at there expense and the guy also did a line quality test and told me that there was nothing wrong on my side, he said the problem was on the telco side, he said that coved was overloading there servers and that is the reason why I will never get any faster speed than what I was currently getting.
So tech support is turning my speed down to 900 in order for me to get in the 700's, as soon as they would put it up to 1500, what I was paying for, my modem would lose sink and I would get nothing, so they would have to add more servers or keep my speed down to 900. What happens is most people that switch from dial up to broadband are so happy that there internet is so much faster and as long as you are just surfing the internet and not downloading big files you don't realize that what you are paying for and what you are getting are totally different.
To end this long story about a month before my contract was going to be up with coved I did some research to see what is available in my area and found I had 2 choices cable from Comcast for $57 for the service +$3 to lease the modem per month for 3000/128 or sbc yahoo dsl in 2 different flavors 1500/328 for $26 or 3000/328 for $35 a month. I chose the $35 one witch is $20 cheaper than what I was paying for, only problem was I had to go with the 1500/328 for the first 3 months because they are in the process of putting new wires in my area to handle the higher speed, so in the mean time I get the 1500/328 package for free until the new lines are done, plus they told me that I have one month to see if I am happy with it and cancel if im not within a month.
My speed test results in the 2 weeks that I have had it have been consistent at 1200 to 1300 down and 300 to 320 up. So I would say I am very happy with sbc yahoo!

Also I had the 1.5mbs plan before and never got above 680kbs or so most of the time it ran about 340kbs that sucked and it was up and down and after calling them for 3 months or so they found the problem!!! There servers were to far away so they set me up to closer servers and now I am happy thanks!!!!!
Edit by RTB:
Fixed your copy'n'paste stuff. All you need to copy is the text inside the text box for easy viewable speed results. The automatic copy link doesn't seem to work in Firefox.

I am very dissapointed with my dsl pro package i pay 49.99 and i get crappy results now. I have the 1.5-3.0mb download/384 upload and I usually averaged about 400Kbps download speed which made me very happy
and my speed test where usually 2500-2900Kbps
but now i download about 60Kbps and average speed test i averaged only about 500-600Kbps which is about 1000+ off advertised and about 1500 of what i usually get.
I did the download speed test just now and got 1mb download in a pathetic 18 sec which i use to do 2 sec or less "all the time"

I think for only $14.95, that is a good deal!

I've had a few problems with sbc yahoo dsl express...especially since upgrading to the pro plan...as you can see I'm not even at the 1.5Mbps minimum and a far cry from 3.0Mbps. I'm only 5,000 feet from the Co and I've tried every tweak available, fortunately their "dedicated" staff has yet to figure out what the problem is...they claim my line can handle 8Mbps. The cheap price reflects their service!
