does anyone know of a way to schedule automatic MYSQL database backups so i do not have to do them by hand anymore.

Sure,just create "Job" and just followthe instructions .......you can send notification in emailand whatever.

yeah..

http://sourceforge.net/projects/automysqlbackup/

uses cron, gzip, mysqldump..  this will only work if you are using a linux based solution..  The other way would be to download the gui tool from mysql.. I think you can schedule backups in the administrative tool they offer.
