UK's 2008/09 tax increases

Mr Darling risked the anger of environmental groups by delaying a planned increase in fuel duty for six months - but motorists will face an April 2009 fuel duty rise of 1.84p a litre.,

Plans to increase first-year road tax by $1,900 for the most polluting vehicles - and a general reform of Vehicle Excise Duty aimed at encouraging the production of greener cars - are also expected to bring in an extra £730m  Tax annually by 2010.

From 2009, unless companies make changes, Mr Darling said legislation would come into effect that could reduce the number of plastic bags in circulation by around 12 billion.

Licence to own a TV now up to $280 USD a year ,
(but a concessionary 40% discount for the blind, ( I know that takes some believing , )

Most polluting vehicles  ?   =   over 135 cubic inch
even the humble plastic bag  is under attack ,
well if you cant win in Iraq ,  find a softer target I guess
Hell a bottle of whisky , up by $1.00 USD, a bottle of Southern Comfort now $54 USD ,  I guess it's tap water time and  that costs me $800 USD a year ,

Oh it's OK though no Tax on Tea  he wouldn't dare

Sh*t , I guess this is Darlings pay back for growing up with his  name , it must have been tough with all the guys calling him Darling ,
