  1. but they ask that port to be forwarded?

what i think is going on, is your using the router, and software firewalls, maybe XP's if so,

go to the XP firewall settings and also enable your port for tcp/ip.

if your using stuff like blackice, tinypersonal fire wall, or some 3rd party firewall, do the same,

    otherwise, that's silly.

MOST GAMERS have routers, i'd say about 99% that i know have a router..

the other 1% have their own slackware routers.

  2. apparently THIS router isn't helping your situation, i think i understood u to say your using a g and a b router inline, maybe one is  backwards compatible???? if not, get NIC's that are g/b compatible..

otherwise, it sounds to me as if that router needs returned, and replaced.

if it's the SOFTWARE, then search for known bugs, otherwise, your SOL....

wow, everyone is so damn touchy

  3. that power level on the screen shot is sick way out of line!!!!

I have a MOtorola Surfboard (SB) 5120 and would not trade it for anything in the world!.

Way easy. I have a 6/1 line, i get 6.3/.75 consistently, upload will never be at 1mbps.

the motorola has a great feature, (screen shot above) for diagnostics, one problem with ISP's

is it finding a TIME STAMP.. this can be fixed via help from a knowledgable tech from your ISP helpdesk, i would suggest asking for a supervisor, or tier2 tech, or a "product specialist", whichever

    terminology your isp uses.

    Frequency  591000000 Hz

Signal to Noise Ratio 29 dB

    QAM 256

    Network Access Control Object ON

    Power Level 2 dBmV

The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading

    Upstream Value

    Channel ID 4

    Frequency 30992000 Hz

    Ranging Service ID 68

    Symbol Rate 3.200 Msym/s

    Power Level 38 dBmV

as u can see, i have much diff power settings, i do however have a diff ISP im sure, and a diff speed package, which im SURE this makes a big diff.

IF you have to buy your own modem ??????... get a motorola sb5120, u won't be disappointed.

  4. Hope everyone had a great and SAFE Independence Day.

I took a test this morning, I haven't been online in like a week.

    still consistent.

still wickedly consistent, i've bypassed my routers and what not for a few, im going str8 from modem to XP machine, hence IP change... it'll be back when i go back to router, but it's me, really me, same me.

  6. My first question to you is what is your speeds SUPPOSED to be, that sounds VERY low for cable internet. I can't give you any suggestions until i know your proposed speed, because, if your speeds supposed to be 768 down by 128 up, then your right on the money, if it's supposed to be a 4Mb/s line, i'd be calling a tech support supervisor and considering the fact there may be engineering issues.

Get back with that info, and read that link other person left, then if u have  m0ore questions feel free to post again, but at least give us your proposed line speed, and your network/router description, (dont risk your security).

  7. EvilDevil thats remarkable!!! let's see your upload???

I ran me one today, im getting some better speeds down, im not happy with my upload, i want more, but i've got to wait for the new teir to rollout, im already a gold subscriber.

ran this close to 6am, earlier in fact, i've been up an hour, gotta love sleeping disorders.

    time to take my meds.

    i'll be a zombie soon.

so far gaming servers have ran ok, for some reason, as bandwidth packages get higher, gaming server bandwidth requirments raise also. 4 years ago, a gaming server on this type of connection would have been elite, now its a "scrub", only to hold up to 12 players, six on a team LOL! cutting edge servers require at LEAST 12 per team.

This connections download is ALL over the requirements, its the UPLOAD, i need another entire Megabit of upload in order to serve out a game the way i truly need too. Considering EACH player would consume about 12kB/s and usually more in upload.

  8. My sister, she works for Customer SUpport and Sales, for comcast at the asheville HQ... the rumors aren't TOTALLY rumors, it's just when and where will upgrade and how it will be rolled out, and when, SO FAR, the best inside rumor i have heard, is September, and it will be 14000/2024, no new hardware, a simple bootfile sent to the modem, modem reset, and wallah your on a 14mb line.

    Craziness.

I am still totally happy with my 6mb line from comcast, but, with the next tier!!!! i need that upload for shizzy meh nizzy

  9. I FIND it WAYYYY easier to do this for the following programs:

AOL, Norton, Black Ice, any p2p, THE ONLY way to get rid of them???

    fdisk, reformat, reinstall windows...

much less work, and u have an untainted registry
