  1. I know, didnt have a newer copy of the error message, this was just one that I saved to my computer to show the tech who came out to my house. I've noticed it for a while, and then one day was talking to a tech and he said that its the modem thats not able to "range" whatever that means... So it lead me to believe that my modem was bad so I promptly replaced it and now I'm back up to speed :D

  4. Had a tech out to my house yesterday and noticed one thing that was wrong with my connection... I had recently unplugged a tv and left the cable hanging out of the back of the VCR and he said that it was backfeeding through the rest of the house so that sped me up a little bit and then he said he was gonna turn something over to maintenance.  So we will see...

Netmasta:  I"ve noticed that error like once or twice now.

  6. Some get over advertised speeds, some don't. But I would say that you should be able to go alot faster. You say optimized, I assume that you meant TCP Optimizer. Maybe if you dumped that and got a cablenut instead(with cable anyway) you might see better  speeds.

If you meant cablenut you might PM Van, remember he is busy. He could get you a better setting. Just a thought.  :D

Just pulled that from his post I think I mis understood him...

And also have I what... You forgot to right your question :)

  7. No I used cablenut.... And how am I getting overadvertised speeds when I used to get the speed that they are advertising.

Edit: I've also checked my upload speeds and those are where they are supposed to be...

  9. Ok so I've noticed my internet starting to go ALOT slower than it used to.... Let me first start off by saying that I'm a gold teir member which entitles me to 8mbps down and 768kbps up.

However whenever I run the download speed test i'm only seeing a max of 1.6mbps, so I proceeded to contact comcast techs to find out what the problem could be.  They said that there were no reported outtages in my area, they then proceeded to check my modem and said everything was fine and suggested that I power cycled the modem... So I power cycled the modem and nothing became of my speed going back to normal, its still going extremely slow... I've run out of ideas and comcast techs are of no help telling me that the router I purchased automatically updates itself even after I told them that I manually have to download and install the new firmware.

Any ideas guys?  This is ridiculous, I'm paying extra per month to recieve faster speeds yet am getting slower speeds than their regular advertised speeds...

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. If you need any tests modem settings etc just let me know.

  10. hey earlier on in this post you guys said that i should have a 256 QAM and I still only have a 64 QAM What exactly does the difference do for your connection and also how would I go about getting them to "give" me 256 QAM....

Also the lower the number for the downstream power level the better correct?

If so how do you go about lowering your power level.

My friend is having ping troubles to some game servers and his power level is 7dbmv  and mine is -1 what exactly would the difference be?
