I had the 3360/768 connection and was just downgraded to 3200/608. Why do they do this, is it because available bandwidth that verizon has or something, is this how the regulate their system. And does this happen often.

are u talking about the ethernet cord cus i mean the pone line. He said the dsl will start to dissapear on a phone cord after 14ft, not the ethernet cord. Is that still wierd. As of now i still haven't had any interuptions.

I called and we found out that the cord from my gateway to my comp. was too long which was 14 feet. I had it long so my ethernet cord to my xbox wasn't too long but i  shortened the cord to my gateway and lengthened the one to xbox live, haven't had a single problem since. I hope that doesnt cause more latency on xbox live.

Well I have verizon dsl 3MB. I have never had cable so I can only tell you what dsl is like and maybe somebody else can testify for cable.

Most dsl packages are $30 a month and at 1.5MB, I was lucky and qualified for 3MB. Overall i like dsl even though every now and then I run into a problem and have to call verizon which provides good customer service even though you may have to wait. Most cable is at least 4MB sometimes 5 or 6MB and is $40 or $50 a month. In my opinion, u should only get dsl if u can get 3MB because it would then be worth the price. If u can only get dsl wit 1.5MB, u should definitely get cable which can give u at least 2.5MB more for only and extra $10 a month. I think dsl is best because of the price only if u get 3MB. If u do a lot of downloading or play on xbox live or something and want exceptonal performance, u may want something. Since cable is $40 $50 a month, and u can get 15MB with verizon fios for $50 a month, I would get fios before I got cable anyway, but i dont qualify.

I used the calculator and put in my capped speeds which was 1.7MB and guessed 250ms for latency and i got 1.6MB on the speed test every time. This was back when i was still on 1.5MB

Go to ur connections and go to ur connection u use and go to support and enter the default gateway number into ur browser as if it was a website. This is what it looks like for me, but i'm not sure if it will work for u.

What did u do, cus i still have mine's set up the wierd way.

I used to be able to plug the network cable straight into my comp's built-in network card. Yesterday i messed around with the properties and changed the media type to another setting rather that leave it at auto-detect, just to see what whould happen. Well, no more connection is what happend. could it be a power issue? Or is my comp's built in network card just a piece?

I did the same EXACT thing, now my comp wont detect my connection unless i set up a PPOPE connection on my router's software.

how do i see what my ip time is and no i dont think my ip is changing.

hey mat, do u mean that ur comp. wont detect the connection as normally and u have to set it up throught ur modem?

Just so everyone knows, every file on bearshare or limewire that has a file size of 872,159 is a virus/spyware. I usually find the when searching in apps.

Is there a way to make firefox NEVER open a new window and ALWAYS open a new tab instead. I messed with the settings, but i will still have to either click and drag, or middle-click which i'm not used to.

At first i was gonna use ie 7 because of tab browsing, but i did some research and found out firefox has it, so i'm probably gonna stick with firefox. I'll keep ie 7 on my comp but i'll have to use both for a week until i see which one i wan't to use all the time. But one thing i can say is that IE7 is definitely faster than firefox. I dont know why. Although its only a little, using firefox, i consistently get about 2880Kbps, and with IE7, i consistently get about 2905Kbps. For me personaly, IE7 DEFINITELY outdoes Firefox with its looks and speed. The only theme i like from firefox is the default and qute, but ie7 looks better than qute anyway. This is gonna be a hard choice, where does IE7 outdo firefox for me?

I have had the Westell Versalink gateway that came with my verizon dsl package since November (which is when i got high speed internet so i can play HALO2). Now there seems to be a problem with it. Every half and hour about, it will either completely shut off and come back on, or shut off very quick so u will hardly notice. I know it is the gateway causing the problem because this interupts my computer's connection and my xbox live connection. I think the problem may be because i was having some problems with my connection, which was here in network connections under LAC (top pic), so i called verizon, and they had me setup a connection on my gateway's software which I usually dont have to do (bottom pic). Somebody told me that my gateway might be overheating and to put a fan on it, i tried that and it doesn't work. What should i do?

Yeah i tried mcaffee one time, it came with a free trial, and it froze my co,mp up, and slowed it down so much to the point where i couldnt use it so i had to uninstal it.

I see what yall think are the best free ones, but what are the best ones to pay for, i wouldn't feel safe unless i am gonna pay somebody something.

Can you change your MTU, and will this make your connection faster?

Since the router says that people whohave upgraded verizon DSL says to have a 3360Kbps, has anybody been able to get their connection above 3.0MB. I can only get mines to 2.9MB.
